Sterile property reminds me of the quarry across the road from Dad. The new owners literally destroyed every tree around it and put none in the water for fish cover. No shade along the banks either. Dumb. And they have a ski boat and have been using it. I wonder if they cleared all the dangerous shallow rocks away too..........would not be fun to land on when skiing. No house there, just a recreational property with a clubhouse of sorts. All kinds of security cameras too.

This has been a hectic week. Mowed and trimmed Monday prior to evening rain and the fact that I would be gone all day Tuesday taking Dad to dr. appts. That went pretty well until they did labs, but they only did one for the scan he was doing at the Urology location. After we were done there and on our way to Stress test, I called his dr office and asked why they didn't do all the other labs. Well apparently the labs were never ordered...... I remembered his family dr last week saying they needed pre-op labs.......So they called in the orders and we got them done at the Cardiac center in the major hospital. Pays to listen I guess so I can fix their mistakes. LOL. Saved us another trip to town later this week. I also let them know any results should be called to me as well as follow up appts. Appts to go and listen to them say what they can say on the phone isn't happening. We already know the diagnosis so nothing they have to tell us will be a surprise. I was hoping to get shopping done while in town, but instead opted to stay at the hospital for the duration of the stress test, 3 hours. It's in a dangerous part of town, even in broad daylight. Not interested in driving around there by myself. The hospital has their own security police and K9 unit. Just last week there was an officer involved shooting with 2 officers injured and the perpetrator killed at 10 in the morning. He was a former hospital employee and the hospital went on lock down that day.
Enough stress for this week! Today I went back to town and did my shopping at a leisurely pace. All done for a week. Went out and picked kale, it's in a bucket of water til morning when I'll clean and freeze it.

Well, ya never know when some crazy people might try to plant a native tree, or grow a nutritous vegetable there, or start a habitat for birds or bees or rabbits. Mother Nature might even try to do so herself. Imagine the horror.

I know it won't happen by me. It's ironic that when we bought our land, that lot next door was overgrown with wild blackberry bushes, Queen Anne's Lace, and Mulberry trees. It was a wildlife wonderland. Now it's like Mumsey, called it, Sterile property. Like I said before, they probably hate me for all my trees and chicken coop and weeds. Oh well, what ya gonna do?

Finally all the trial peppers are mulched! Ended up hauling a total of 75 gallons of water to the new addition to water peppers and newly emerging beans. Ran soaker hose in the old garden for a few hours as I wanted to get the country gentleman corn transplants in the ground today but that didn't happen as it was still hot, hot, hot! Not sure I want to see the water bill when it arrives since I'm estimating I used around 200 gallons of water today. Lots of wind and clouds but not a drop of rain. On the plus side, I've had 100% germination on all my saved bean seed. I'm growing a variety that was labeled blue meerabarbe that I picked up at the seed library. Info said it was also called Nonna Agnes Blue and further research revealed that it's also the variety called San Bernardo Blue that I was drooling over in the spring. Planted the best 6 out of 12 seeds and five have germinated so far. A little worried about mice and moles so they're planted in a large washtub and will construct a teepee of poles around it. Trial beans have all turned out to be runners too so constructing a few makeshift trellises for them too.
Swelling from the extraction is now minimal and almost no pain. I was tempted to sink money into a root canal but that tooth broke last week and made for a miserable few days. Glad to have it gone! Dentist also informed me that my insurance no longer covered partials and the price they quoted was twice what the one I had made in 2018 was. My niece recommended the dentist she goes to as she was very satisfied with the partial they recently made her at half the cost.

Helped hubby run electric to the greenhouse. Luckily it's pretty close to the house, so trenching wasn't too big of a project. Ran the wires thru the conduit today. I should be electrified by the weekend. Spent some time in the garden, but the mosquitos are so bad, I couldn't stand it. Really not much to do but pull weeds and wait.
Going to the concert in the park tonight. Will bring the bug spray just in case.

I've finally been able to spend good time in the garden after the latest round of health issues. I'm not too old to garden, and I'm sick to death of being sick to death --- feeling better every day. Lots of chickadees, hummers, even a few indigo buntings (an uncommon sight). DS has really done a knock-down job taking care of vegetable growing, I'm really proud of him. Tomatoes rolling in, butternut and spaghetti squash, okra, and peppers sweet and spicy. Brilliant sunsets, several nights in a row. Ended this productive evening with the first BLT of the year.

Went to look at/get me some new glasses, in the hope that perhaps it will help my recent equilibrium problem (which I think is doubtful). Talk about sticker amongst other shocks! I haven't had to buy glasses for gee - maybe 10-15 years - & I can't believe what they're going for now.
Another thing? Why do they think that everyone wants to wear cat's eye/feline shapes or blocky black Elvis Costello's? Ditto for psychedelic or mosaic plastic frames. And nearly all sporting any one of dozens of "designer" labels. All I wanted was normal size/shape lenses set in plain gold thin-wire frames. Without anyone's name on them. There were only TWO that somewhat fit that description, exception for the name thing. Ended up with a pair by "Coach" (like they're not making enough money on their fancy leather goods?) which ended up costing me a total of $199. I'd better be able to see like an eagle with x-ray vision for that.

I have native grass planted where our 4-tree orchard is. When we were taking water from the Acequia Madre over the past 2+ months seed washed in from the acequia water and introduced a new weed. Don't know its name but it was taking over about a quarter of the area. I followed the shade and weeded that 1/4 area (mystery plant along with siberian elm sprouts and some others) , cut the bindweed at the soil and mowed half of the orchard grass. Also weeded about half of our feeder ditch too. Will keep whittling away at it - I figure I have 2 more days of work there. I love seeing native grasses tall and I love the groomed look too. The good thing with native grasses is that you really only need to mow a couple of times a season.
I'm beat. My hands and lower arms are sore from weeding and cutting.
Went out to admire my work after dinner and picked the last of the wild sour cherries. Also thinned out the apples- at least as far up as I could reach (it's a semi dwarf). This should help the apples grow bigger. The tree is loaded and the apples were crowded.

Talk about sticker amongst other shocks! I haven't had to buy glasses for gee - maybe 10-15 years - & I can't believe what they're going for now. I wear progressive lenses (no-line bifocals) and the industry started doing the good, better, best a while back. The basic advertised lens has a narrow band where the progressive area is, just like looking at one of those narrow, vertical cell phone videos. You pay more and get a wider field of vision, pay even more and get the full-width lens. It's like a bait-and-switch scam so they can advertise a low price to attract customers, then you find out it's not worth having. My last pair was $500 and insurance paid $250. You also get plastic lenses that are impossible to clean.

Yesterday I puttered in the kitchen. Froze peaches that I got at Aldi for $1.29/lb. Really good peaches!! Only got 2 lb in case they were not good. Went back yesterday and got 20 lbs. All spread on the counter to ripen more. After skinning in the Instant Pot and slicing, I put them on a tray and froze. Then into vacuum bags. I got the bucket of kale cleaned, blanched and frozen. Sliced up a bunch of apples that had been in the fridge for weeks.....still good. Put them in the dehydrator with cinnamon. Delivered the last of the garlic to a lady nearby, she's a regular customer so didn't mind doing it. Today I need to get some beets harvested, will freeze those too.
The heat kicks in big time starting later today, just in time for our town's summer festival. It will be a hot time in the ol' town!!
