Was warned to be prepared for unsolicited garden advice. Could have some fun with that! I'll bet!

I was determined to get in a little yardwork this morning. Been working on reclaiming the side yard again and have a spot cleared off big enough for the harbor freight greenhouse so far. Not intending on putting it up just yet but getting an idea of how I want it. Hauled five bails of spoiled hay in from the edge of the field and ran over it with the lawn mower. Intend to pile it over the potatoes and cardboard. Dug out a roll of black plastic sheeting and hope to get it spread over the new garden area to kill the grass. Quit around 1:00, cleaned up and went to a PTO meeting. Have plans for every day this week including kiddo's IEP meeting on Wednesday. I'm hoping all goes well but fully prepared to start homeschooling in the fall if it doesn't. The sad thing is that the school is awesome but the board of education is horrible.

The sad thing is that the school is awesome but the board of education is horrible. Have you considered running for the board? It should be an elective office.

Have you considered running for the board? It should be an elective office. No! Not that I don't think it needs improvement but currently our board is run by the state because of misappropriation of thousands of dollars of federal funds. Board members currently have little power which is indeed sad. Plus it would take away precious time from my home and family, which is the main reason I decided not to go back to work after the pandemic. Not that I won't go higher to fight for special education reform but we're approaching year six and I'm just tired of fighting for everything little thing. My question at every meeting is what about the child whose parents won't fight or don't know to fight for them? What happens to those kids?

This was the highlight of my day yesterday! Grandma had cowslips along the side of her garage for almost as long as I can remember. The yellow ones are a division of those but the red ones died out a few years before grandma passed and I never did get a start of them. So five or six years ago a lady was selling pots of the red ones and I immediately grabbed one. Finally they are both putting on a show!

Scaled back my duties yesterday, sorta. Dug catmint and potted it up. Found 2 more stray asparagus, quite big, cut up and potted. They had skinny shoots so Princess and I ate them. 3-4 spears of asparagus ready to cut, which I totally forgot yesterday. Will get them this morning. Took fencing down around asparagus patch, too hard to get in once it gets to growing. I may put it back once it starts ferning out.
Today is a puttering around the house day and tending basement dwellers.

Yesterday was a good day for me, up early to water the newly planted raspberries, rhubarb and flowers. Then on to do the daily chores feeding the chickens and horses, I was surprised to find 8 eggs first thing in the morning. Mowed the yard and ran the weed eater also around the garden area and fence line along the road. Run the little field cultivator thru the upper garden and I think I’ll do the lower garden after 7:30 this morning hopefully the neighbors won’t mind.
Up at 3:30 this morning to get sweetheart to the airport by 5 for a visit with a friend in Florida. Breakfast at Denny’s, not many choices at that hour, then back home to water the newly planted rhubarb that the stepdaughter was a bit hard on when she dug it out. Going to get mom’s bush trimmings and such so I might as well take eggs to her and my daughters. Time to get scooting……

Sunday afternoon, granddaughter had last cheer showcase of the year. I drove there with DS who had to stop at Walmart after the show. I usually don't go to the nearby Walmart. Anyway, while we were there I passed by a clearance rack and saw a couple of good deals, but because I didn't drive, I didn't have my wallet on me. I went back yesterday morning and believe it or not, they were still there. Cuddle Duds winter tops were marked down to $4.00. Picked up a few then saw a rack of shorts for $2.00. I don't wear shorts a lot, but for $2.00 I have 2 new pairs for when I do. Came home and got the cabbages planted under the row cover. I need to start potting up tomato babies. This is the first year I've had 100% germination and didn't have to replant any seeds. I need to scrub out the stone birdbath today. Noticed it was looking pretty gross.

Been a long day. Had a meeting this morning that lasted until 2:00. Lunch was great and we performed a skit I wrote as the lady who usually does that has been very ill. Stopped and picked up everything but the meat for hot dog chili and enough cabbage to make a sizeable amount of coleslaw. School bingo is Sunday and I volunteered to make both. Called home to check messages and discovered hubby's cousin had left a message about jars. She mentioned them earlier and I told her I'd take all she wanted to get rid of. So after we got kiddo off the bus we went to pick them up and didn't make it home before the rain started. Ended up with four totes and a few boxes of jars and stored them in the garden shed. Attempted to empty one tote and sort them and decided I'd be out there all evening so called it quits. I'd already sorted out two dozen quart jars and a dozen pints as well as several food jars, rings and caps. Holding onto the food jars to use for seed and dried herb storage. Also stopped by and picked up a letter from kiddo's doctor that I'll be taking to the meeting in the morning. Fingers crossed it all goes well.

Got a lot done out there today, and it stayed nice all day, not as hot as yesterday, and no late rain. I got some of the SIPs ready for the tomatoes, including filling a new one, and mixing some more homemade mix, to refresh some others with. I also put some landscaping fabric down in the longest tomato row - not the best fabric, but it's better than nothing. I'll go out early tomorrow, to try to get some more done, but no telling how much or when the rain will be coming, as they are forecasting rain the next 3 days, but only 1/4" total, so it's not going to be like those rains I've been getting.

I got the last of the tomatoes potted up. I really need to get to the chile starts I purchased, as they are pretty big and I'm sure root bound. I just run out of steam sooner than I expect I will. Tomorrow is another day. Also drove to town to pick up some fill-in groceries and stopped at the "rock store" (a spot along the back road home, where an arroyo crosses and there are lots of rock to pick from). Brought home 3 more- about 1 ft diameter each. Watered the sunflower transplants and that was it for the day. Was pretty wiped out from those few activities. But I definitely felt better- each day brings a little more improvement- just slower that I'd like.

Stayed inside most of yesterday. Finally got out at 4:00 after the rains and was surprised to see all the aspargus! Cut 11 stalks. The Cleveland pear tree (named Seven) was starting to show blossoms in the morning. By afternoon they had all popped out and green leaves showing. That was fast! And that tree has grown pretty fast too. Everything is greening up with all the rain. Occasional showers today but hoping to get out and take care of the grass creeping in from the fence line.
My half-sister called last week with an invite to her daughter's baby shower. She's having boy and girl twins. The shower is this weekend. Kinda short notice. So I whipped out a couple receiving blankets. Flannel with pink trim for girl and blue for boy. The best I can do on such short notice. May do some bibs with the leftover flannel.
Big city trip this morning.

Kiddo's IEP meeting went on for over two hours this morning and I came away with a good feeling. I invited the superintendent and my advocate was awesome! Kiddo's teacher has been on leave for several months but the sub has been awesome and is making every effort to include kiddo in all classroom activities which wasn't happening prior. What a relief to have it over!
Headed home to pick up hubby and then to town for an electronics pickup and to pick up an order from the restaurant supplier for the school bingo on Sunday. So except for a meeting tomorrow evening, I should have the entire day to myself tomorrow! Hopefully lots of gardening happens.

Had every intention to knuckle down and unpack more boxes and organize, but then I heard the birds outside making a ruckus and noticed one of the seed feeders was low so I went to get sunflower seeds, but on the way I saw a patch weeds that needed to be dispatched, while there I saw the Spanish lavender needed to be watered, which also prompted me to check on the veggies I recently started, afterwards I saw my trowel had not been put back,(I'm fussy about where and how tools get stored) so I grabbed it to put it in its proper resting place then saw that my work shop area should be tidied up, which took some time, and that's when I remembered the sunflower seeds. Where did the day go?

Latitude33 , Just like me and my ADD. Didn't realize until a few years ago why I leapfrogged from one thing to another. We do get a lot done though, just in a roundabout way.
