I took the last of the Christmas decorations down and took decorations off the tree but didn't get tree put away. I'll enjoy the light one more night. Watched granddaughter for a couple of hours while DS and girlfriend went to the health club. After that, not much.

I just bummed today. Last night was one of those thankfully rare nights when I just could NOT get to sleep, & it reached a point where it got far too late for me to take any pharmaceutical assistance. I finally just gave up & accepted the maybe 90 minutes of rest I got & chalked it up to just one of those days/nights. Thus today I was really too tired to really do anything besides continue some mild puttering/household chores. Hopefully it will be an early & restful night.

Decided to get to work on the fix-it pile of clothing and have patches basted on five pair of jeans and a denim jacket. Two pair were actually ones I wear regularly but figured I'd batter tackle the small holes before they get bigger. Tomorrow will be paperwork day and PTO tomorrow evening, so hopefully I'll take a day later in the week to sit in front of the sewing machine and get them all finished.
I did make a trip outside this morning to toss some banana peels in the compost pile. It was raining when I went out, but after a trip to the garden shed to dig out a few seed starting trays my great-aunt had gave me it was starting to snow. It snowed off and on the entire day but little accumulation. May start onion seed at the end of the week

Started yesterday going out for breakfast with the neighbor returned home in time to hear stepdaughter having a meltdown on the phone with sweetheart. The normal stress of life coupled with getting a new couch that she doesn’t like now that it’s in her living room and being her 95 year old grandmothers health advocate is weighing heavily on her. Grandma has been diagnosed with cancer of the soft tissue in her arm and doesn’t live close by. So sweetheart told her to pack the boys up for an overnight with us. I have to say that besides hanging out with the 6 and 3 year old boys I didn’t get much done but Ruby was in puppy paradise. 😂 Today the girl is rested and ready to handle things so it was time well spent.

Had a great weekend with DD and family. Then Sunday afternoon saw the winter storm watches for Iowa and progressed to warnings, starting at 0900 today. So at family urging, packed up and left to come home at 3 pm instead of today. Best laid plans went down the tube! No meet and greet with centralilrookie this trip, was planned for this morning. All the drama the weather people place on their forecasts is hard to decipher...what time, how much, track of storm, da da da da.......So better safe than sorry I headed home. Got home with no problems except for some drizzle and falling temps on the way out of Illinois. The traffic was moving "normally" at 75-80 mph. There's nothing worse than a blizzard on an interstate in the middle of nowhere. Been there, done that, not doing it again. Couldn't pick up the Princess after 5:30 pm so will head out this morning and be there at 7:30 when they open. Then we are home safe and sound for the duration of this storm and the next later in the week. Grand DD and I went shopping Saturday while DD was at work. Had fun and bought a few things at an Estate selling business in Ottawa. Besides shopping, did lots of cooking. Yesterday morning DD got out my mom's wedding dress which I passed on to her. Did lots of reminiscing and looking through the wedding album. My goodness, mom and dad looked young! And to this day Dad wears his hair the same way!

DW…I too have a gardening drawer..some really need to be trashed..after an injury I woke up in my absolutely most ratty gardening clothes…hubby still laughs because I didn’t ask, “where am I?” But, “Why am I in my gardening clothes?” I am far less likely to hold on to any gardening expired outfits. Oh! They were nasty. And in the rag pile. Holes and stains in the knees, stains on the chest…Just saying…toss those babies ..when in doubt, throw it out..

I think my worst gardening attire are my shoes. I'll use old gym shoes for gardening and they get really bad. I have a pair of the Slogger rubber garden shoes, but without socks, my feet get really icky. Oh wait, I did have one pair of shorts that I used for gardening, but I lost weight and they looked really bad, and they kept falling down. Those got thrown away.

Surely I'm not the only one who gardens looking like a hick. My gardening attire consists mostly of jeans, T-shirts (long and short sleeved), a couple of denim and flannel shirts, garden hats and a couple of hooded sweatshirts and denim jackets. Occasionally a jacket may get hung on a post while working and forgotten about overnight and I don't fret about it. Skirts and dresses in the garden are new to me as I have one of each but find myself constantly getting snagged on plants and/or trellises. For the warmer months, my shoes of choice are Crocs. Yes sometimes my feet get icky, but nothing that a little soap and water can't fix. Plus cleaning the shoes only requires a bucket of soapy water and a scrub brush. No praying that the shoes make it through a cycle in the washing machine or that they quickly dry on the line.

Got a bit of a late start yesterday as school was delayed because of the weather. Needed to balance the PTO checkbook in preparation for the meeting last evening but still hadn't received a bank statement. Calls to the bank were unanswered so I decided to call the corporate number and actually spoke with someone helpful. Checkbook balanced out and I got to work on profit/loss statements for our Christmas store and miraculously was finished by 2pm. Kiddo has a classmate who generally stays for PTO meetings and unfortunately won't leave her alone. She's not a bad kid but wants to hover and not respect kiddo's boundaries and usually one or the other ends up crying at some point. I decided that the best thing to do is to send kiddo home on the bus but our driveway is a muddy mess right now and I didn't want to make hubby and her walk through it. So I went to school a bit early, made all the copies I needed for the meeting and dropped kiddo off at home before heading to the meeting. Unfortunately just three parents and the majority of the teachers but we had a chance to really discuss issues. One of the things we discussed was the school high tunnel and garden beds and how only a few are being utilized because of lack of funding on the county level and lack of interest by any of our last three principals. So by then end of the meeting we had a plan and I've been reaching out to seed companies and local businesses hoping to create some partnerships to get the garden going again. We have rain and high winds forecasted for the next few days so I intend to take the opportunity to get the seed starting area prepared and will probably work a bit on sorting seed and determining what needs started when. Maybe I'll actually get around to mending those jeans too.

I was quite tired yesterday, napped off and on all morning. Went and picked up Princess early. It did not go well for her at the kennel. They said she was very nervous, vomited and had excess salivating, pooped in her kennel. They put her in a more isolated area on Saturday and she did a little better. I had told them when I brought her she doesn't do well with other dogs, probably PTSD from being attacked 4 years ago. They pretty much suggested I find another option if she needs kenneling in the future, they cannot guarantee they could isolate her each time. l guess I have a special needs dog! She was happy to get out of there and she was anxious to get to the door, totally ignoring me until we got into the car. I think it would be best to leave her home and have someone come in 3 times a day. She slept most of the day once we got home.
Finally went to the garage and got down flats for onion/shallot starting. Then got the quilt ready for binding, seems I'm not getting much done in that area lately. Cut the binding and now ready to sew it on this morning. I am also finding myself pretty lazy at actually cooking anything for just me, been eating canned and frozen things, though I did fry a couple eggs yesterday morning for breakfast. My culinary imagination has escaped me for the time being. I'll get it back.
Today I'll be watching the snow which is coming down pretty heavily, and it's sticking to the trees. Wind will pick up later. Brought the shovel and broom to the house in case I have to shovel our way out from the deck. Winter has arrived. And brother did not make it here from New York. His flight was delayed numerous times due to weather so he gave it up and cancelled his trip.

Well woke up to slush. It's supposed to snow all day, but it's going to be 36*. Good thing I didn't run out last night to get the eggs.
