Ran to the store this morning to get some foil and cat food right. Just happened to walk down the clearance aisle with all Christmas items at 90% off. Found some fairy lights with the timer for a $1.00, and a little ceramic Cardinal that I had seen early in the season for under a dollar. Couldn't pass them up. Came home and took down the Christmas light on the deck rail and replaced them with red lights and white snowflake lights. Kind of wintery and Valentines all at the same time.
While I was out I stopped at the dollar store and say they had their seeds out. .25 a pack. I bought 4 packs of spinach seed.

With sweetheart at work yesterday I thought I would run over to see mom and take her some soup and eggs that she had requested. Called her to confirm that she would be home and didn’t think much more about it. A short time later little sister called telling me that mom wanted to go out and do something so I put aside my other plans for the day and scooted over to see the grey haired lady. We started out with going to lunch at a deli, then a surprise (to her) trip my favorite seed store which had their new flower seeds out to her delight and finally to the quilt shop for her to capitalize on a 20% off sale. She seemed pretty content when I returned her home and sent me away with a bag of cookies and a plate of sweet treats. Not a bad day at all…..

Snow Day today. Have been doing laundry- our regular weekly plus getting some blankets, and other odd items washed. Shoveled the flagstones from the front door to the gate and driveway. It was only an inch but it's a wet snow and, if we walk on it, it will ice up where our feet land. Better to get it shoveled away. Started going through drawers to get rid of some clothing. I have a cycle . Buy clothes to wear out in the world. When they start to show a little wear or stains that won't come out, they become around the house clothes or they get cycled to my "garden drawer". I might be one of the better stylishly dressed gardeners some days . Over the years I've gardened in velvet skirts, beautiful wool sweaters, dresses, some of my favorite tops and shirts. When the tears and holes get too big and dirt stains take over, then and only then I get rid of them.

Yesterday, with sweetheart being home, started out a little on the slow side. As the coffee kicked in it was decided that she would run a couple errands and I would get supper started. Salisbury steak in onion and mushroom gravy would be my contribution to our meal as she would add mashed potatoes and green beans with bacon and onions when she returned. After I got my part going I went outside to clean the chicken house out and find a solution to fixing the door that wasn’t opening correctly. Sweetheart had called her dad to eat supper with us and he showed up promptly at 5:30 as requested ready to dine. When he finished he deemed the meal “a good old fashioned supper”. I’ll take that as a win……

Getting ready to head out in an hour. Planning to meet up with centralilrookie for a meet and greet! Yesterday was a good day. 3 friends came and took me to lunch. Once back at the house they presented me with a memory stone. Haven't decided if it should go to the garden or stay in the house. It's quite beautiful. The rest of the day I spent packing me and the Princess for the journey, hers being much shorter than mine. Hope all goes well at the kennel. Fingers crossed.

I had a meeting at school this morning and when I was approaching the intersection of our little community, there were two cars approaching and the first one yielded and came to a stop. Unfortunately the second one didn't even slow down, and rear-ended the first car. I immediately pulled into the little store there and the first car followed. Everyone was okay and it turned out the people in the first car were hubby's relatives. The second car was completely totaled with fluids leaking and airbags deployed. Hubby's cousin was understandably shaken as her son is terminally ill and they were on the way to the hospital when the accident happened. When the fire department came on scene I gave them my number and went on to the meeting though a little late. Just a quick reminder that it only takes a split second for things to drastically change.

No gardening today. That includes no looking at seed websites.
I still needed vaccinations for RSV and pneumonia, so today was the day. Then a visit to the library, and picked up a few things at the grocery.
The arm that was used for the RSV was screaming when I woke from my evening recliner nap. I don’t know whether the reason is the shot, or the snow knocking on our door. Nap felt good, though.

When the tears and holes get too big and dirt stains take over, then and only then I get rid of them. I decided to dig my favorite gardening jeans out of the fix-it pile where they've been since 2022. Probably 15 repairs in two different patching sessions and all the usual weak spots including where the back pockets attach and that area where the zipper is tacked down that always seems to wear out after 100 or more wearings. The last hole started out relatively small but increased as the day progressed and I was a bit surprised to see that that rip is at least 18" long and down the front of one leg. At least five other small holes need mended before they become massive too. Now I understand why they've been in the fix-it pile for so long. Contemplated cutting the useable areas into pieces for a rag quilt as the jeans are 100% cotton but have decided to accept the patching challenge and preparing for round 3.

Yesterday doing chores I found, what I had expected, that the heated water bucket for the pony and the dog bowl for the chickens both not working. Luckily I had bought one each a couple of weeks ago so changing them wasn’t a big deal. The FIL and I then made a trip to Menards to save big money! 😂 It was their 15% off bag sale so i filled a bag and also got cat food and pellets for the smoker. Made yet another stop at my favorite seed store for a certain item ( that might be a surprise for someone special), then a trip past the new bridge being built to see the progress. I returned home just ahead of the sweetheart’s sons showing up to put the finishing touches on the garage in floor heat and firing up the boiler. By later in the evening the garage was definitely warmer but it’ll take another day to get the floor totally up to temp. We’re happy to mark another thing off our bucket list…..

Grim, grey, raw day here today. Started around 8 a.m. as ice & sleet - just enough to coat everything - then changed over to rain/freezing rain which is still coming down but is supposed to end in the next hour or so. Luckily we don't have to go anywhere today or tomorrow; are just sequestered here at home watching tv & puttering.
