Oh darn, emmsmommy. Well, I guess another silver lining is that the three of you can have some relaxing quiet time together. I hope your hubby's pneumonia is mild.

Totally wore myself out yesterday. Dragging today. Baked the cookies, they were chilling in fridge overnight. Made new shower curtain. Just one bathroom to clean and I'm done. DS will be here this afternoon, we'll make a plan then. He's bringing fresh shrimp and French fried onions for the green bean casserole he loves and no matter the menu, it has to include that! And some kind of cranberries, this year it will be cranberry curd tart. Never made it before.
Dense fog this morning, can't see 1/2 block. It's getting a little brighter so the sun will burn it off.

Yesterday I took advantage of the sunny warmer day (48º) and blew/raked leaves that had fallen in November (while we were gone) and then got snowed upon. They were matted down but I got them into a pile that can do its magic into leaf mold. Then dared to venture into town to pick up a couple of things from the grocery store. It was a mad house. Finding a parking spot took more time than the actually shopping, but I used the self check out lane (which I don't usually use) as it was a short line with 6 registers available and got out quickly. I just couldn't bear to stand in a regular line behind multiple carts loaded to the gills, while I held my 2 items in hand. And then there was the traffic. Santa Fe is a big tourist town and they have arrived in hordes for the Christmas Eve Farolito walk and pueblo dances, as well as families arriving from out of town.

It was a little-bit-of-this-little-bit-of-that day. Baked corn bread and cubed it to dry for the turkey breast corn bread stuffing on Christmas day, made yet another unplanned trip to town to Home Depot for a new locking doorknob, replaced the door knob to a storage shed, did a deep search for cobwebs and knocked them down, touched up the main living areas in prep for the holiday weekend, did my best to help us get to the end of the Christmas cookies (almost there!)

Hubby is pretty rough but kiddo and I are on the mend. I know he has a myriad of health issues but I can't help but wonder if the fact that kiddo and I have had more boosters than he has made a difference. Pretty much just cooking for kiddo as my head is still congested enough that I can't really taste. It's pretty much been soup or sandwiches for hubby and I. Mother-in-law insists on sending food our way this evening and putting it in the bus house at the bottom of the driveway.
My days should have been spent working on mom's table runner and wrapping presents but still procrastinating. Actually it's been a chore keeping kiddo away from her daddy so he can rest. I've been incorporating signing the alphabet with her spelling and have found that it's made a tremendous difference, so we worked on some new words today. Also picked out some toys to either sell or donate and pitched anything broken.
So this day before Christmas will likely be spent doing laundry and pulling kiddo's gifts out of their hiding places. She'll awake on Christmas morning to a small tree in her room and another in the living room. Otherwise it will pretty much be an ordinary day.

Had some Christmas calls. Folded the paper sacks for the farolitos and then put in a scoop of sand and a votive candle. Made 5 dozen this year (a little less than usual) Placed them along the lane and into our driveway, down 3 steps and into our private garden up to our front door. It's a wonderful NM tradition that is done only on Christmas Eve to light the way for the Christ Light to enter our homes for the year. Forgot to take a pic but here are a couple from last year... And then to the neighborhood gathering for some cheer and appetizers.

Yesterday morning hubby suggested trying a new breakfast restaurant that recently opened. I'm not one to say no to getting out of cooking. After that we ran into Home Depot for a quick gift he forgot to get. Weird, the place was almost deserted. Came home finished wrapping gifts. Putzed around the rest of the day until 9pm when we got ready to go to 10pm mass. Our church was decorated so beautifully. Our midnight mass is in Polish. I'll go to that mass one of these years. Not sure I could get hubby to go though.
Hope everyone has a good Christmas. I know it will be hard for some. Loss is hard this time of year.

Hubby is down some kind of virus..negfor Covid. Huge sty on one eye..so warm tea compresses and they must have helped because he started to do them without a reminder. Fam celebrates Christmas Eve so this year I made a deep dish meat lasagna w salad and daughter made a charcuterie board. It was a hit. She cut out the shape of a teddy bear out of the top of Bree and filled w fig jam. It was delicious. Well I’ve been baking my patootie off. And I organized and displayed all the Christmas cookies and they were dessert w coffee. Everyone took home cookies and there is still a boatload. Made GF favorites for the youngest..the 3 layer bars in red green and white. Made marsapan. Macaroons, and Hungarian cookies, Cho chip coconut, whiskey cookies, gingerbread, gf Hungarian, I’m going to have to make my own fruit fillings for next year Bec they Rollo- changed the ingredients and fruit is item 4 on the contents 🙃 the first 3 are HFCS, corn syrup and sugar. Yuck. I can do better than that. We have so very much to be grateful for this year. Wishing you all peace this holiday. For those missing family members this season- hugs, may your memories sustain you. Mumsey..I. Am off to take a walk with you in spirit…

We made it through the Holiday. It was different and eerie, we tried to keep to our traditions of Christmas Eve dinner, a couple games of Scrabble. Went to Dad's for a couple hours earlier in the day. Christmas morning brunch with eggs Benedict and hash browns and fruit smoothies. Then we just relaxed the rest of the day, watching movies. Neither one of us felt like doing anything. Made some calls to family members. Came up with a plan to visit DD in Illinois. Grand DD is home from college, was hoping to go this week but she's having wisdom teeth removed and said the following week would be better. So it looks like 6-7-8-9th. It will be an interesting trip, taking the Princess along. Like packing for a kid! Then brother from New York will be here the 7th-12th.
After DS left yesterday it was still light rain. Since it was so warm decided to walk. We were fine til the last 2 blocks, rain increased and we were soaked! But not cold.
Going to lunch today with a friend. Tomorrow it's to Dad's to help make deer burger and sausage. That will be an all day affair.

Went to younger sisters house yesterday for Christmas. My older sister is still sick and didn't come. She has the chest cold everyone has. Kids had a ball, lots of gifts, lots of food. I'm ready for spring.

Ended up not locating a few small gifts for kiddo but she ended up with 10 gifts total and half of them were dolls and/or stuffed animals. One doll in particular comes with it's own bowl of peas and a spoon and it's been her absolute favorite and the first thing she grabbed this morning. Misplaced gifts were located and put into the closet for her birthday. The absolute best thing about spending Christmas Eve at home was that there was no drama and no one running to the hills when it was time to do dishes. Still missed letting the kids get together though. My parents are planning on having Christmas dinner Saturday and I'll be in charge of installing computer #3 that Dad bought Mom for Christmas. It's a long story that started with a refurbished computer that wouldn't power on.
Today is the last day of quarantine and also marks the last of the white milk, the opening of the last box of tissues, and the leftovers of Christmas dinner my mother-in-law sent up will be gone too. Planning to do another Covid test in the morning before I even think about going for groceries. Masks are ready and waiting as they have been since I first started showing cold symptoms.

I ran out to the grocery store this morning because of course all the groceries I bought were for Christmas. All Christmas merchandise 50% off. I bought a sheet of To and From stickers for $1.00, also found some Lindor chocolate bars for $1.00 a piece. Store wasn't crowed so I was in and out pretty quickly. Now I need to do laundry, a lot of laundry. Talked to my son and he is thinking of taking Christmas tree down. He is off this week so it would be a good time for him to do it. It's been up since before Thanksgiving, so he's really ready for it to come down. I usually wait until after the new year. By then I am ready for it all to come down. I do have snowflake lights I leave up all winter though.

So far today, first I surveyed my kitchen, which looks like a war zone from yesterday. Then I popped out to a local grocery store to pick up a few things that I wanted that were on sale. Then I waded into enemy territory & washed a few pots & pans.

Celebrating Christmas can surely leave a person tuckered out! Sunday I put together vegetable beef soup to take to mom’s on Monday while sweetheart prepared ham, cheesy potatoes, green bean and corn casseroles in preparation for her kids stopping by that night. Christmas started out with breakfast at one of her sons then off to moms for lunch with all my family. We ended the day by going to her brothers to gather with her siblings. Needless to say by 7:30 we were ready to end the day quietly in the confines of our own home with Ruby.
For Christmas I received an insulated blanket for using the smoker in cold weather and sweetheart’s present from me was a diamond earring, to replace the one lost on our Alaska trip, and a better set of locks so hopefully that won’t happen again…… 😂
