I couldn't give up my gas range, and I doubt they could force restaurants to do that, either. And how would a Chinese chef cook in their wok on an electric stove?
Oh, BTW, when I set my kitchen up, in '83, and brought that range in there, I had to cut the door into to kitchen larger, then put it back together! Somebody would have to do the same to get it out.

On a satirical site the other day they had posted that the government wanted to ban fire, since they heard many lives had been lost due to fire. Maybe followed by banning water because of lives lost when surfers wiped out and drowned. Love satire, but sometimes can't distinguish much between satirical humor and what is really going on today. I have seen news articles where I double check that it is on the news and not the Babylon Bee.

Saturday was the funeral for sweetheart’s step mother in the same cemetery that my mom’s parents are in and a few other relatives. I know where my grandparents are and the general area of the others but called mom today to make a plans to go around to see who is where. I guess it’s time to step up to the plate of responsibility on knowing where my ancestors remains are located.
Yesterday I had a craving for a meat, mashed potatoes and gravy type meal so while sweetheart was cleaning house I put a pork chop recipe in the crockpot. I hate to say but the gravy left a lot to desired but the barn cats seem to enjoy it poured over their food. 😂 I did a quick job of cleaning the girls stall as I’m trying to hold myself accountable for not letting them get so bad that it causes more work than necessary when cleaning. Dug a couple of old hay feeders out of a miscellaneous pile and came up with a plan to mount them on the pipe fencing. Wasting less hay should make stall cleaning much easier. Finished the day watching a couple of good football games. Life is good……

Well I woke up with a horrible sore throat and all of the sudden I realized why kiddo likely wasn't eating. The clinic we normally go to was booked, so we headed to another location in town. Sure enough we both tested positive for strep. So we both spent the afternoon sleeping and happy to say she just finished a bowl of chicken broth. Doctor gave me a school excuse for today and tomorrow but she'll have to make quite an improvement before I send her back on Wednesday.

Well. Here I sit in the dark. Power is out!! Whole town looks dark! Guess I jinxed us when not too long ago I said we rarely lose power. Not weather related. Found 3 candles. I don’t think it’s been out long as it isn’t cold in the house yet.
Yesterday was vacuuming day. Washed couch covers and Princess got a bath. Made more granola which was way better than the last time. Picked up 2 quarts of honey from a guy in town. $15/quart. Pretty reasonable. One for us and one for DS.

And the fun continues. Power on for an hour. School delayed 2 hrs. Off again for an hour, school cancelled. Back on again. They say they don't know why......
We are going to the big city, maybe when we get back things will be normal.

Planted a couple hundred foot rows of peas, beets, and spinach at the guerrilla garden down the road from me, it’s bare bones, no way to water anything, no fertilizer or compost, just tilled up native ground and hopefully rain. It’s not the nicest garden but it’s over an acre, and space is something I have very little of. My buddy tills it up a couple times per year, hopefully it rains for a few days next week.

I'm on the mend with just some minor aches but kiddo is still not eating solid foods so keeping her home again tomorrow. Honestly this is the sickest she's ever been and hoping she improves soon. On the bright side, the migardener order arrived yesterday and kiddo loved looking at the new seeds with me. Itching to get outside soon

Heading to dentist this am for a filling repair. Snow in forecast, not looking forward to driving 17 miles in it, small town nearby. Dad called and said it's time for toenail trimming, said they want $35 copay to do it. I said, so you would rather pay me the $35?? He laughed. Silly me! I'll go there tomorrow.
Got the quilt done, now to do binding. It's nothing spectacular, but a good way to use up stash and keep me out of the fabric stores. It's a Star Step quilt, the pattern I made, each star block is a different color scheme. I still have fabric for 2 complete quilts, been putting off diving into those. Determined to finish up UFO's first.

Got the dentist thing out of the way, yay! OMG I hate novocaine. Didn't have time to eat before I went this morning. By 1:00 the effect had worn off enough to eat. And boy did I!
Finished up the binding on the quilt, I really need to find another hobby. One can have too many quilts----ME!!! I could do some painting in the house.....
Too windy and cold to walk today. Heading to Dad's tomorrow with another trip to Wally World. Forgot some things yesterday, DH is not a patient shopper!
Power was out for 5.5 hrs yesterday, contributed to a fire in the sub-station, cause unknown, but they say they have ruled out foul play. They had to call in engineers from Cedar Rapids to assist with diagnosis/repair. Our power is a municipal utility. If it wasn't for the fire, they could have turned on the city generators but they deemed that choice not safe. I'm thankful we live where we do though.

I really need to find another hobby. One can have too many quilts----ME!!! If you love making them, then keep making them! You'll never get paid for the hours you put in, but you could sell them for whatever the market would bear and will have had the enjoyment of creating and at least some $$ to pay for your supplies. And you would give someone an incredible gift that they might not have been able to afford otherwise. Or give them to people in the nursing homes, to single moms or anyone/where else such an incredible gift would make their day. I just think if we love doing something we should keep doing it no matter what. And then be a fairy godmother and sprinkle the goodness around.

Kiddo went back to school this morning and I moved all the quilt stuff aside so that I could organize the rest of my seeds. I'd neglected to sort and write down the flowers or herbs and I had a few new seeds arrive so I felt it was time to get serious. Discovered I only have one variety of pumpkin and a variety of dahlia that gets up to 5' tall and am excited to grow that one. I have about seven varieties of basil and the same amount of marigold varieties. We shall not speak of the sunflower varieties. Have onion, jicama, lemon grass and geraniums set aside to start as soon as I make the chilly, muddy journey to the shed. Also put a few packets in the fridge for a month to mimic winter conditions. Did take time to add notes about when to start seeds as it will be much handier than constantly pulling packets. Also intending to design some sheets I can keep by the shelving unit to record information when the notebook isn't handy. Last year I scribbled on whatever and by the time I got around to transferring everything to the notebook, I couldn't locate half of it. Also a big "Woohoo!" as I saved over four pounds of seed last year, mostly beans but some peas and curly kale too.

Set six old fashioned rat snap traps, I took some Rat-X organic salt-based rat poison pellets and dipped them in natural peanut butter and placed the traps in the greenhouse where the rat has been devastating my chard, peas, and baby cabbage seedlings. It does not seem at all interested in the carrots or the lettuce, every rat has different taste preferences. I covered the traps with some leaves for camouflage, this is a highly intelligent rat, it saw two of its ilk trapped earlier this year, and it has learned and evades the traps. There’s at least two resident owls that live in the backyard in a big oak tree as well as 3 different feral cats that hang out and the occasional snake, but none of them have managed to catch this rat. I saw it when I was under the house last week checking the water pipes for leaks. We stared at each other for about 30 seconds, the I went to fetch the air rifle, by the time I got back, he had turned the corner and all I could see was his tail.
I lost a whole raised bed full of Sugar Magnolia blue podded peas, expensive seed from baker creek as well as a dozen or more cabbage seedlings. Thankful it hasn’t dug any carrots or bothered them lettuce.
