My plans for today went amuck. Started washing fabrics for a project. Then got a reminder call that today is our sump pump system inspection. So while the guy was doing that, I planted the shallot seeds. The Princess is still skittish after the smoke alarm ordeal last night. Had to go out a couple times in the rain today to force her to come back in. Then remembered I had to go to our HVAC guy's office to get his completed rebate form for our furnace inspection back in November, we walked there to get it and did 2 miles along with it, rain had tapered off by then. Never got his bill either, he said it was all mailed a week after the service. Never got it. So playing the beat the deadline date on the rebate. Got all that done. Spent time chatting with DS about our fishing trip in June, it was a failed eduction attempt, he was trying to send me money for it thru an app called "Zelle". Bottom line, my credit union is not hooked up with that, so on to plan B. Oh wait....there is no Plan B..... Tomorrow, I. WILL. SEW.!!!!

Mumsey , I've used Venmo to transfer money. It works with my credit union. Zelle doesn't work for me either. I think its associated with Bank of America which doesn't seem to hook up with credit unions.

I just went to the SE Asian market today, since I was starting to get very low on a couple of the soy sauces, and some other things. I think it's been close to 2 years since I was there. Some things had doubled in price, while others had barely gone up - much like everywhere else. It was a relatively small trip for me, but I had to re-stock those few things in my pantry.
Along the highway, on the way back, I glanced to see if that hydroponics store was still there, and it still is, plus they opened a store next to it, that has "ORGANICS" in the sign - not enough time to look closely, and I had something frozen in with the food, so I didn't stop to look at it. It's only about 7 miles away, so I'll have to go over and check it out sometime.

Sweetheart had to work yesterday so we were up early and she was on the road by 4:20am. My neighbor/farmer and I went for breakfast and a little drive around the countryside. When he dropped me off I sliced up a good chunk of the smoked pork loin that I did Sunday for him to take to his mom and dad. His dad is in the early stages of Parkinson’s and doesn’t get around much.
Talked to my life long friend in Texas, who’s wife passed last week, about going to see him. Decided to hold off for a bit as his wife’s sister, who lives in Iowa and had been assisting since October, had fallen Sunday and shattered her knee cap. So he’s also dealing with that and when/how they will get her home. When it rains it pours…..

I found water on wood floor underneath sink so I assumed there had to be a leak under the house. I crawled under the house real quick to make sure the 70 year old copper pipes in the crawl space leading to kitchen weren’t leaking. There was zero evidence of a leak underneath the house but I ended up seeing a big live rat just staring at me and I had to crawl through literal rat feces to get to the water pipes and I didn’t have a tyvek suit or cartridge respirator on, just a regular dust mask. 😱
It’s great that there’s no leak, but now I know what dig up my peas in the greenhouse and has nibbled on the brassica seedlings. Also now I’m panicking thinking I could have caught hantavirus or hookworm or plague, I just want to jump in a pool of bleach. I trapped two rats with peanut butter a couple months ago after they ate some cell trays of kale, but I never had any more on the traps and the damage in the garden stopped so i assumed the problem was taken care of. Apparently not. 😬

Yesterday with sweetheart off to work I ran a couple of errands for her then decided to clean the horse stalls. All went well but today I’m plagued by some sore muscles that are severely out of shape. Maybe I need to consider a per-gardening workout plan? 😂 Today is the father-in-laws 84th birthday so we are getting family and friends together at the eatery of his choice for a little celebration tonight. Here’s to hoping everyone has a good day today….

now I’m panicking thinking I could have caught hantavirus We have hanta virus around these parts and it only comes from deer mice, so if it's rat feces you're worried about, you can probably cross hanta virus off the list. Most likely you are safe.

Hand quilting today and enjoying the beauty of the back yard snow clinging to everything. Our snow guy got here around 2:00, said he's been out since 3am! Didn't have to get out of the driveway, but when I could, went to the junk shop and scored on their 50% off kitchen items. Got a Rachael Ray sheet pan with crisper tray for $3.75. Brand new, I could see no evidence of it ever having been used.
No walk today, the winds picked up and temps dropped this afternoon and froze all streets and sidewalks. We are in for a more seasonable week for temps.

I cleaned all my seed starting trays. Went through all my seed packs. Waiting for my onion seeds to arrive. Bought a 2 cu. Ft. Bag of seed starting mix at Good Earth. They are only a couple miles away. I thought $15.00 for that large bag was a good deal. It should last me a few years. I believe it is called Country Cottage seed starter. I usually bought jiffy mix but the price keeps going up each year. I should have enough seeds left from last year’s purchase for this years garden. Probably will get some spinach seed. All the snow is gone from our Buffalo Blizzard. The deer jumped into the garden and devoured all the parsley. Hoping for an early spring.

Been a busy week with meetings but finally today I tackled some fabric scraps and have them cut and somewhat organized into piles according to which quilt they go to. I should point out that my quilts are usually scrappy so anything goes. Hubby was in a cleaning mood today and uncovered a tote of fabric among his stuff that I've been trying to find for months. It's cold and muddy and I still need to bring in soil mix to start the onions. Will probably start jicama and geraniums too as both should be big enough to repot before I start tomatoes. An elderly friend of ours passed away and the services are tomorrow so kiddo will be hanging with grandma for a few hours.

dave9354, Welcome back!! That is a pretty good price for your seedling soil. I got ProMix potting soil 2 cf compressed to 1 cf, Menards, $9.99, clearance a couple weeks ago.

More hand quilting yesterday, then moved on to attempting DIY granola. Went to our town's grocery store for coconut. Amazingly they had it. Then as I was passing the dairy case noticed a dozen store brand eggs for $8.39. On another shelf were Egglands Best for $4.99.
Then I began wondering, if there are fewer chickens, then where is the chicken meat coming from? And the price of that hasn't seemed to skyrocket.
Went to see Mrs. J at the assisted living. She is slowly declining, but we had a nice visit. I have to write most everything on an eraser board as her hearing isn't good at all, even with hearing aides. We had tea and cookies. It will be nice when Winter is gone and I can take her out to the patio.
