So after my 2 week grocery shopping I unloaded the bags at the front door before parking the car. But before carrying them into the house , I took a quick tour of the private garden and poked under the mulch. Yep! There's growth under there: sprouts of tarragon, oregano, 2 spring bulbs - not sure which, could be a tulip or daffodil, day lilies, bee balm. I always go searching on a pleasant day in January. To see those sprouts gives me hope that the winter will end, is ending (even though we will have many more miserable winter days) Just knowing they are waking up is enough right now.

First quilt class yesterday though it's more of a pick up your pattern day than a sew day. A book is required for this one and a ruler I don't have either so glad I had some Amazon gift card money left. Walked across the streetbto the 25 cent thrift store and left with several pair of jeans and a denim jacket I'd originally intended to cut for other projects, but it fits so darn well. It has the rips that are in style now and after I put some backing fabric behind some of those holes I'll probably start wearing it. I can just imagine my mom cringing now as she hates that my old denim jacket is ratty around the sleeves and collar from 10-plus years of use. another thrift store stop and a couple pair of jeans and three free pair of shoes for hubby. There must have been 300 pairs marked free and surprisingly we found two pair of Sketchers and a pair of Nike in size 13/14 that looked barely worn. Hubby is hard on shoes and our last trip to the shoe store was unsuccessful, so hopefully these will last the year. Kiddo brought home a C on her report card and I'm actually happy as this teacher is actually grading her instead of last year's which issued straight A's. The majority of her assignments are modified and though she's making progress, her stubborn streak has made an appearance quite a bit lately and she doesn't want to do her class work. Today hubby has a cardiology appointment and we'll probably stop at another thrift store on the way. Only a few things needed from the grocery store, so should make it back in plenty of time to get kiddo off the bus.

Big city trip today. Planning to go to sis's this weekend just for fun. Then brother called and asked if I could come over and help him with his last deer that he got on the last day of the bow season. Told him I had other plans.....hate butchering deer meat. I don't mind helping to make sausage. That will probably be the next weekend.
Started hand quilting the Star Step quilt that I made from scraps. Went to the vet for Princess's nail trimming. She needs dental cleaning, they no longer do that in the office here, so have to go to the big city. Geez, that costs more than human dental cleaning, due to the anesthesia I'm told. But it has to be done. Those Greenies don't do any good, she chows them too fast. Plan to do that in a month or two. Went for 2 mile walk after that.

Yesterday started out with me going to get fresh cinnamon rolls from a bakery as sweetheart’s dad was stopping in for breakfast before going to his wood shop to make a box for his wife’s urn. After eating we ended up at the wood shop and sweetheart’s brother stopped in so there wasn’t much accomplished but they talked and laughed which was probably a good thing. When we got home I got a call from my life long friend in Texas that his wife had passed earlier. Cancer is such an evil disease. Now to sort out a schedule that allows me a few days for a trip to Texas.

centralilrookie,I found out Monday that a lifelong friend had died too. His family lived across the alley from us in Chicago. Just turned 60 in December. Then on Facebook, saw another guy from the old neighborhood passed away. He was one of the younger guys. Sorry for your loss.

Today we completed taking down and putting away the Christmas decorations. 10 bins worth of decorations plus the tree. Everything is now organized and clean and in clean bins in a clean area of the basement, yes we did a lot of cleaning.
Gunner and I went to the Rez to get gas in mommy's car, he loves going for rides, especially to get gas because the attendants give him treats. I paid $2.95/ gallon today at the veteran-owned station and gave him the usual $5 tip.
Three orders came in today, two seed orders and my coffee. I bought some store-brand compostable coffee pods the other day, and they leaked and spilled grounds into the cup like they were too small for the Keurig. Today in my San Francisco Bay coffee shipment, they included a spacer ring to put the pod into before putting it into the machine. Now I have a solution but must ask why after five or six years of no issues does something like this happen. I've had little or no problems with the SFB pods over the years and this is the first box of store-brand that ever caused a problem.
The Urban Farmer seeds came in, those were two varieties of corn, Ambrosia and Kandy Korn. Johnny's sent carrot, cuke, bean, onion, 4 varieties of tomato, and watermelon seeds. The flats and trays also came in the same Johnny's order.

Our tree came down yesterday. It’s in the tote, along with the lights and tree skirt and the instruction picture that daughter made many years ago. The ornaments are piled in a box on the love seat, waiting to be individually wrapped and packed. Today was not the day. Maybe tomorrow.
Today, I played with seeds and laundry. I sorted out lots of old seed that I might grow…if they pass the germination testing.
The Norfolk Pine is happy to have his spot back at the east window.

Oh, I sure do miss mine. After four years of loving care, it became a victim of one night outside below 45 degrees. It was bushy and soft and ferny --- and then, dag-nabbit.

We drove to the big city- Albuquerque- with ferocious winds. Driving on I-25 was a challenge- kind of a white knuckle experience, but it had to be done. On the way back, stopped for an early dinner as we came through Santa Fe at Jambo Cafe- African/Caribbean fusion food. That man can cook!

Well hubby's LDL cholesterol was a bit too high, but other than that everything was good with the cardiologist and he's down 20 pounds from last year. Stopped at the thrift store on the way and it was another jeans day plus a beautiful embroidered jacket that was a steal at fifty cents, but can I bring myself to cut it to include in a crazy quilt? One thing we definitely wanted to do while we were out was to visit Save-a-Lot as the ones nearby have all closed in the past few years. Unfortunately when we turned in, we were greated by a grand opening sign for another grocery store that we have locally. Back in our town we stopped and picked up the electronics again and once again very surprised with what people get rid of.
Ill pick kiddo up from school later this morning as she has her first appointment with a pediatric dentist today. Praying that she cooperates or else it will be another trip back to the university for dental services. This dentist was highly recommended and from the reviews is very good with kids. I'll probably stop at Michael's and redeem a reward certificate about to expire but other than grabbing lunch, I have no plans to stop anywhere else. Mom is going with us as it's always better to have a second set of eyes when it comes to kiddo and strange places.

Harvested a bunch of lettuce and cilantro to make guacamole. Gardens still look a bit sad from all the freeze damage. Was pretty devastated to see that squirrels dug up every single pea seed I had planted. I planted a whole pack of Sugar Magnolia (purple pod bush type) and a pack of golden/yellow peas from Baker Creek. Squirrels even dig up all the peas I planted in the greenhouse. Not sure how they got in but they tore up three 50 cell trays of kale as well. I even watched a squirrel eat one of my collard green plants yesterday, I was surprised, I didn’t think squirrels liked brassicas.

The Baker Creek order showed up today, Lillian's Caseload peas, California Wonder peppers, Mongolian Giant sunflower, Black Seeded Simpson lettuce. I also had several varieties of petunia in there. All of my seeds have been ordered, no more this year! Now, I have to go out and pick up some more Jiffy Mix, maybe I'll casually saunter past the newly deployed seed racks just for a look-see.
