When we had our orchard we used orchard ladders which are a tri pod ladder. You're going to be very happy with a a good ladder for your harvests raphanus,

Saturday I went to Acme of when they opened at 7 am (almost nobody there, even when I left) - I only go there when they have deals, and they had several! The temp was u p to 42° already, so the frost just slid off, fortunately. One xeal was sweet potatoes/27¢ a lb, and several other produce deals, plus sugar for 99¢/4 lbs. I still have some from last time it was 99¢, but can always use more in cookie season! I was home by 7:25, and went up to Aldi when they opened, at 9 am - not as many people as I expected, but when I got out, about 20 minutes later, there were quite a few. Again, only there for the deals, though a couple of things have actually come down. Butter is back up to $4, but the cream cheese is one of those things down a little, but I still don't need it that bad!

Ran a weedwhacker and then a thatch rake over the ground under some of my bigger fruit trees, removed all the perennial grass roots and weeds, mostly Florida Betony, added half a dozen bags of top soil and mushroom compost and black kow and sowed red clover and crimson clover. Dragged as many containers into the greenhouse as would fit and filled them all with potting mix. The more volume of soil and plants in the greenhouse, the more heat it will hold. Just sowed a tray of onions in the indoor grow room. Something ate all the onion seedlings in the greenhouse, how odd, I’ve never seen anything eat onions. It wasn’t rodents. Maybe some specialist insect

We went to the Christmas dinner for an organization mom and I belong to today. There was a total of 12 people and we all distanced into our own family groups. I tweaked Granny's corn pudding recipe and it turned out just as excellent but a lot less greasy. Need to pencil in the changes before I forget. Put together goody bags for kiddo's class and will drop them off tomorrow when I go into her classroom. The school decided to have Christmas activities tomorrow evening at the high school and I've pleaded for a change as so many of our kids won't get to go because of transportation issues and the fact that about half of the kids are way up in the boonies so to speak. We opted not to go because it starts at six, kiddo's bedtime is seven, it's a 30 minute drive and there's school the next day. We've been told that there will be no Christmas activities at the school for those who do not attend and I don't agree with that. I'm definitely looking forward to Christmas break!

Baked dozens of my grandma/mom's Italian Christmas cookies. (I lost track of how many) and got them wrapped for neighbors and friends. This is a photo from a few years ago, but it looked the same in my kitchen this today.

desertwoman , it's been a long time since I've made tarallucci. Bet your house had a really nice cookie baked aroma.

Baked dozens of my grandma/mom's Italian Christmas cookies. My Italian father loved those crispy fried cookies dusted with powdered sugar. I used to make those every year. A great discovery was realizing deep frying wonton wrappers achieved a great result with half the work. I also figured out how to make really good torrone (nougat with almonds).

emmsmommy, that's too bad for the kids . I asked my granddaughter if there was a Christmas pageant (do they still use that word?) this year? She said that you only get to be on the stage when you're in third grade. .

datgirl, ours is referred to as a Christmas concert but was always referred as a program when I was a kid. Teacher was going to let the kids open their goodies at the end of the day today and the kids were excited when they realized I came bearing gifts. I bought a bracelet for one of kiddo's classmates during our Christmas store and when I went into the classroom later that day she was in tears because she'd lost it at recess and asked if I'd look for it in the gym. I didn't find it but bought another when we were packing up and gave it to her today. She assumed I found her other one and I didn't tell her any different. She's a sweet kid and doesn't get much attention as she's the oldest of four.

A labor of love today. I made pierogi for Christmas. I haven't made them in a few years and I figured I have the time now, so what the heck. Making them isn't as bad as the clean up. Will be making the stuffed cabbage,(golabki) on Friday. So many of our Polish holiday customs have died off, I feel like I need to do this while I'm still around.

loved those crispy fried cookies dusted with powdered sugar. The pizzelli are made with a pizzelle iron (like a waffle iron). I've never had them fried. Do you recall how you did that? I'm so curious now!
