I went out with my leaf blower/sucker, and sucked up 4 (maybe 5?) more bags of leaves; there's still some in one area, but the sun was going down, and it's amazing how cool it got quickly! It's supposed to rain a lot tomorrow, so I wanted to get the leaves on the lawn, and against the house at all out of there, and any on that side with the garlic I got out, though I'll put some more of the ground leaves on some areas where it's a little thinner. The garlic is looking great, and every time I look, I see fewer empty spots.

desertwoman , feel better soon, my friend. Over the past couple weeks I have been collecting post Halloween straw anywhere I can and stll looking for more. I have a flower and vegetable bed along a fence about 40' long. For several years there has been black plastic between rows held down by long 2" x 6" boards and landscaper large stones. Tricky walking there sometimes. Yesterday I pulled off the black plastic and laid it out on the lawn to have the coming rain wash it off before I fold it or use it elsewhwere. I start leveling up the beds to prepare to lay down cardboard and straw on top of it. Waiting for the rain today and tomorrow to give a good soaking to the ground before the cardboard goes down. I have been so looking forward to get rid of the black plastic and the wood and stone. Straw will make it look better. Several people have given me lots of mulched leaves, some going into the compost and many bags will be held until next year, Beds are all covered and put to sleep. Redacted: except for the asparagus bed

I replaced peppers with broccoli and lettuce.
I try to be super disciplined about crop rotation even with container grown vegetables. I have a bunch of 10, 15, 20, and 25 gallon fabric pots on my driveway because it gets more sun since the rest of the yard is orchard.
The fabric pots are mostly too heavy to move and they are all arranged in a block touching each other so it functions as a 4x10 raised bed. Last winter it was carrots and onions, this summer it was all peppers, this winter it’s going to be broccoli and lettuce. Next spring it will be peas and green beans, next summer it will be squash, etc so I don’t repeat crop families for a few years.
I do a no-till model even with containers. I never disturb the root zone by yanking plants out of the soil, I just chop them at their base and cover them with compost. So yesterday I took pruning shears and chopped every pepper plant to soil level. Some were nearly pepper trees at this point with thick woody lower stems. After chopping, I add some fresh compost and organic fertilizer and beneficial microbes and some potting mix and then stuck the broccoli and lettuce transplants right on top of where the peppers were. Some of the peppers will go dormant soon after a frost but the roots will overwinter and then start resprouting in March or April. By that time, I will have harvested the broccoli and lettuce, so double cropping without any competition. I will try to upload picture today

Did the last of my sister's honey do list today. Patched holes and dings and painted where her husband had banged into the walls and baseboards with his wheelchair at the end of his life, hung two mirrors, and two art pieces. Then vegged out with a movie- My Big Fat Greek Wedding, which sis had never seen. She laughed out loud a lot, which is just what she needs.

Kiddo and I enjoyed a late Thanksgiving dinner at my parent's house yesterday as hubby still isn't feeling well. I did bring home a generous helping of everything as well as his birthday cheesecake that mom made for him. Almost forgot about my Pinetree order but got it placed before midnight and an offer for free cyber Monday seeds popped up as I was ordering so anxious to see what I'll get. Kiddo returns to school today and should have a new aide so I'm both excited and nervous. I've prepared a letter written from kiddo's point-of-view telling a little bit about her and her habits as a way to get acquainted. Hubby grabbed the extra clothes out of her backpack one of the days we were sick so I'm trying to get it repacked and everything ready by the time I wake her up. Will spend the morning working on ornaments and then go to school for an hour this afternoon. Also need to call the health department and inquire on getting kiddo's flu and COVID vaccine as this is the healthiest she's been in a long time and whether my ear would be an issue in getting mine. The nurse at the health department is quick and it's so much smoother than at the doctor's office.

Perhaps you should have your ears checked? You could possibly have an ear infection? My daughter struggled for almost a week until visiting dr only to discover she had an ear infection..last one was 40 years ago.. I had vertigo after a head injury. Yuck. Hope it resolves quickly for you.

For the last 4 days I’ve done nothing but occupy my chair under a blanket. I do think I’m feeling a bit better as the symptoms are decreasing and I’m starting to conjure up ideas for some low effort projects.

I managed to contract the plague last week Monday, I spent three days in bed, and today is my third day being able to act like a semi-functional human being. Cheryl caught it from me and so far hers has been a less serious case. I may run into the clinic to see what it is and get whatever drugs may help it clear up. I tested negative for covid twice. The most aggravating part is the constant cough.

The most aggravating part is the constant cough. RSV has spread like crazy around here, and it's what laid me low for a week, about a month ago. The constant dry cough wore me out. No COVID, no fever, but non-stop coughing and general lousiness.

So sorry to hear about all this, datgirl, martywny, centralilrookie, desertwoman, emmsmommy, and Wheelgarden (did I miss anyone?). Hope all of you get better quickly; it seems to be lagging, with people I know that got it - my cousin said the cough was the last thing to leave, but eventually, she was ok. I'm sure you will be, too.

Could be the RSV thing. A friend had it last Winter and was in the hospital for several days with it. She's usually a very healthy person.

pepperhead212,I'm better. Mine only lasted a little over a week. I usually get that lingering cough, but not this time thank goodness. The worse of mine was that congestion and fatigue.

Went and got my flu shot first thing this morning. Ran to Aldi to get more Raspberries. $1.49 a carton. I had a box of Christmas decorations to donate to the thrift store, but they don't open until 11 am, so I stopped in a couple of other thrift shops in the area to kill 1/2 hour. Found a couple of small Christmas bowls, just the right size for the grandkids. They were brand new with the price tags still on them from Crate and Barrel. 50 cents a piece.
