We had storms with damaging winds on 06/23/2015. After the storms, I couldn't help but go outside and see how the garden held up. I was disappointed to see many flattened plants, broken plants, and broken branches, including all four of my eggplants. They were all flattened, just blown over by the 70+ MPH winds. It was dark, but I felt the need to stake them ASAP. Armed with my flashlight, and still dressed in my work clothes, I staked my eggplant and tied them up. I hoped that the stems were just bent and not broken. The eggplant are all doing well. No permanent damage from their time on the ground. On Saturday, I ventured into my front flower bed, where the eggplant are located, and harvested. This eggplant is a result of my night time staking. There must have been a flower or small eggplant in between the stem and the stake. You can see the indentations from the stem and the stake. You can even see the zip tie indentations. Has anyone else harvested funny looking veggies this season? 20150718_204528 by Purpleplum Radish, on Flickr 20150718_204543 by Purpleplum Radish, on Flickr

I love to see the funny looking veggies. On Saturday, a farmer at the market had an eggplant that had a natural protrusion like a long nose on a long face. She had it by the cash register for display. It wasn't for sale.

Funny. Leave it to us nurses to see the humorous anatomy of a veggie! Second one looks like it has a butt crack off to the lower right side, followed by...what??? Hemorrhoids! Sorry, couldn't resist.
