Neighbor D (the neighbor that I started tomatoes for the last couple of years) arrived at our house bearing gifts this morning. Beautiful green beans, a huge onion, and some garden potatoes...all harvested this morning. This lady has such energy....and now her husband is facing a major health challenge. She still finds time to take produce to the food pantry. Just gotta admire her....her energy....her faith. Green beans and new potatoes for supper tonight

What a treat since you had to take a break from gardening this year.
I always take produce to the woman who does my hair and this morning I brought green and yellow beans, yellow squash and tomatoes. She was thrilled. She has 2 little girls and they actually LIKE vegetables. Good training on the parents part I would say.

Awesome Binny! I have a friend who I give tons of stuff to, she says she feels bad she doesn't have anything to give me. I offered to take her dog and her firstborn grand child. That didn't work. I thank her for taking it, and let her know that I am paying it forward in hopes that someone will look out for me if ever I am not able to play in the dirt! She is OK with it now.

I often share with my neighbors as well. They sometimes leave chocolates or bottles of wine for me, but it is completely unnecessary. If I haven't figure out how to use it, preserve it, or freeze it, I'm happy someone is eating it. Sometimes, I'm just plain tired of eating it if I am having a very abundant harvest of one thing. The one neighbor watches our cats if we go away for more than a couple of days...she won't take anything in return for watching our cats...so I especially try to load her up with produce in the summer.

I plant extras just so that I can give some to neighbors. They are always thrilled to get fresh picked produce. They don't want to grow it ("too much work" they say) but they love eating It. Isn't it fun to do?!

Half the fun of the garden is sharing in Mother Nature's bounty. Wonderful neighbor you have there! Hope dinner hit the spot!

I used to take my overages "to work" when I worked at the health clinic. our CG is connected to a Food Share for the county, and we're 'supposed to' donate, yet there is little structured mgt, so it doesn't get done, I give to my clients

Today brought another delivery. Neighbor Dave's wife went blueberry picking yesterday. She brought us a gallon bag of the beauties. I didn't know that Iowa could grow such nice blueberries.
