Made it to the garden today. I've started using crutches instead of a walker all the time and they allow me a little more mobility. I can get up and down the stairs by myself and into the car by myself. Still not driving...haven't driven since August of last year. Hubby got the weed eater out for me and loaded it onto my garden golf cart. Garden weeds are horrid. Flower garden weeds are horrid. I ran through six batteries...then decided to check to see what was hiding in the raised beds. I found some beautiful Hakurei turnips. This is the first year to grow this variety and Peter was right. They are so sweet. Life is getting better

Congratulations on your increased mobility. I bet it was GREAT to get outside! I also like those Hakurai Turnips.

Wonderful news Binny! Just be careful out there, the humidity is climbing and the next few days don't look too good for us!

The weather forecast was for more rain, so I thought that I wanted to plant some more turnips for a fall crop. So I gathered my stuff and by the time I got out of the house, it was sprinkling. I don't melt, so I cruised on down to the garden on my golf cart and planted me some turnips. The raised bed that is sectioned off for square foot gardening had 4 spaces that I could clean out and put in turnips. The north 1/2 of the raised bed is tall grassy weeds . The south 1/2 has more turnips (fewer than there was because I pulled about 10 of them), kohlrabi, and kale. No bulbs on the kohlrabi yet...possibly too much weed competition for them, but I did get their squares cleaned of weeds today. Tomato plants look pathetic. There is fruit, but the foliage is so sparse, the fruit may get sunburned. I wasn't involved in the planting of the tomatoes and they did not receive any Mumsey's Mix when they were planted. It is what it is......perhaps next year. In the meantime, I'm thinking about suggesting that we add another raised bed for next year

If anyone can make a go of the garden it will be you. You do have to bite the bullet as it's not going to be as if you didn't have the surgery but choose the things you CAN do. You will feel so good! You need that, Binny. So you go girl!

Binny, we just have to let this year be what it is, eh?
I am still one eyed and I tire easily so my gardens are not at all what they can be. I have been struggling with letting them be what they are, this year. And I have convinced myself- well almost- that what I have is better than nothing at all.
Next year we will be gardening like we know we can and I am going to meet you there. Deal?
