nice! I want to plant some kale next year. What type of lettuce is in the last pic on the right? it looks like the kind I grew but I don't know what it was.

Your chard and kale are pretty. I grow chard every year. I just love the taste. I need a place where I have room for row covers before I grow brassicas again. I swear every cabbage white butterfly in Philadelphia lives in my yard. And every harlequin bug in Philadelphia lives in my my neighbor's cleomes...until they smell kale planted in my yard. Then they come over for a change of scene.

I've always found red russian kale to be very low on the bug attraction. In fact, I've had the white butterflies all over my garden - check out the critter in my lettuce thread - they have buzzed about the flowering radishes, the brocolli, the horseradish....haven't seen them particularly interested in the kale....hmmmm
wonder if that is due to the allysum around them?

It wasn't cabbage butterflies on my kale...they were on other brassicas. It was the harlequin bugs on my kale. Like flies on stink.
