Anything special to encourage the side shooting? I have one brocolli that did the main head. it's about the size of a shooter marble, but after 1-2 weeks and no bigger, I think that is it! I meant to transplant some of them, but never did and maybe they are small because too close together. I really enjoy broccoli stem, more so than the head, so I want to harvest as far down as I can, but how will that impact side shoots (which also have stems. ).

You can cut the head off about 4-6 inches, you will still get plenty of side shoots. If it's too hot they will not grow, but with a few cooler days they will grow fast. I just leave mine be and all of a sudden there they are.
