Was in Giant foods yesterday in Hanover and found a Better Homes and Gardens special Interest Publication called "Canning". It's the summer 2015 edition and costs $9.99 which seems expensive for a magazine but after thumbing through it and seeing sections on pickling, fermenting, drying, freezing as well as salsa, jams & jellies, relishes, compotes, chutneys, and conserves, syrups, chili powders, pesto, and much more I decided I needed to buy it. I guess the reason the $9.99 price bothered me was I just came from Ollie's where I had just bought a Williams and Sonoma book called "The Art of Preserving"; a Better Homes and Gardenings book called "Fresh-recipes for enjoying ingredients at their peak"; and another book by better Homes and Gardens called "Can It!" all three books cost me $12.00 and change even though two were $30.00 books and the 3rd was a $17.99 list price.
Now, like many of you, I have my Ball Blue Books, an assortment of canning and preserving books, that cover a gambit of situations for preserving foods and canning, dehydrating, freezing and preserving I found all these interesting enough to add to my collection of cookbooks and recipes. Now I know many are not fortunate to live near an Ollie's but just about all can find a grocery store nearby that carries the magazine. If you get the chance, check it out and see if you feel its worth purchasing! Enjoy! Camo
