Took a few pictures today. Sure is wet out there. Emergence was pretty spotty with my corn, so I filled in the gaps with some old okra seed I had. I am trying out "Who Gets Kissed" a new open pollinated sweet corn variety. If it is any good, I will let a couple ears go to get next year's seed. Thinned the okra out after I took this picture. Bush beans are blooming and the lettuce is about to bolt. Broccoli is really taking off. A couple plants are just starting to form heads. Potatoes are making their way through the mulch. By the time the tomatoes start hanging out the edge of their cages, I should have the onions pulled and out of the way. I've been planting tomatoes and onions in this arrangement for several years now. This year I planted the onions and mulched about 3 inches thick immediately. The onions were a bit slow coming through the mulch, but look fine now. I guess I will see how they yield this year. I do like the fact that I have done nearly zero weeding in them. Just pulling a few bindweed vines here and there.

Your garden is beautiful. Is this your family garden (not to sell)?

Very nice. Problem with thin plantings of corn, sometimes the ears don't get pollinated right so you have spotty kernels on the ear. I had one planting come up really patchy, so I just planted some more right in the same rows. There is three weeks difference, and I suppose it will be two crops, but at least I have a corn patch. We will see how it does? I had trouble with the skunks eating the corn, but found that a radio in the corn patch tuned to the local talk station keeps the critters away.

Your garden is beautiful. Nice dark soil and a straw mulch like I use. I really like my straw mulch and I rarely have a weed problem. I had read about Who Gets Kissed corn. It will be interesting to see what you think of it.

This is just our kitchen garden. I usually end up with surplus of something, but I take that to the local food pantry instead of trying to sell. I am pleased with the vigor of the corn so far. I should have known better than to plant the day before high temperatures dropped to the 40s. May need to hand pollinate the lonely plants. First head of broccoli. Thanks for the recommendation, Mumsey.
