...and the results are in! Our Spring 2015 Family Snap Pea Comparison Showdown between "Sugar Snap" and "Cascadia" is won by: Cascadia. The Sugar Snap might have a slight edge in sweetness, but Cascadia is larger without being tough or stringy, and more robust and disease resistant. I plan on trying the comparison again this fall. Stay tuned...

I have the sugar snap growing, starting to bloom now. Planted mostly for dog and a few for me. They do well enough for our needs. But let us know how your trial turns out. How about some side by side pics?

I'll be growing them in the Fall too. I used old sugar snap seeds in the spring and got lousy germination so I ripped out the TWO plants that I had.
I did just pick a big basket of Early Freezer English peas and we have been enjoying them. I also have a short row of Dwarf Grey Sugar peas that are starting to produce.
I like the dwarf varieties. How tall is Cascadia?

No pics (grrr...I'm in between cameras, and all I have is a dumbphone.) After the wind I don't know if I could get a decent comparison shot anyway. I had always grown Sugar Snap and Super Sugar Snap until a couple of years ago when I couldn't source the seed. That's when I tried Cascadia and we noticed how well it did here. It's similar to Sugar Snap in habit, two blooms per node, usually 5-6 ft. tall.
