Was at the grocery store today looking over what's left of plants. Found an annual hibiscus, $3.14. It's over a foot tall and has a bud, is supposed to be red. I have wanted to pay what most places want for the really big annual ones. Can't see spending 20+bucks on one, only to have it die. Just can't justify it! So this one was a total surprise. Also got a 4 pack of broccoflower $1.34. Everything is 25% off. Planted the hibiscus on edge of backyard hosta garden, will get bright light but no prolonged sun. Hope that was the right place.
Besides, I wanted to save some money to spend at my favorite greenhouse tomorrow, will meet sister there. It's 85 miles away and we don't see each other often. She shares my fondness for gardening. It will be a great day!

Good deal Mumsey. I have one in a pot on my deck. I brought it in for the winter but I don't think I will this year. It's very messy. Dead leaves all over and by the time it blooms again, summer is almost over. Have fun with your sister!!!!

Great price! I managed to keep one alive for 3 summers & 2 winters here (in the ground)....and it was a big double bright red one. I have a very little one in a pot on my front porch now, it was a cutting a gal in Ok. sent me last fall. It had a single yellow bloom with a red center.

Mumsey, you are a queen of deals. I love hibiscus, they remind me of the tropics and they are a great flowers to tuck behind your ear.

Move over, DW....I will join you if my knees let me!
Great deal, mums...you are very good like that. I paid 19.95 for a perennial one which I successfully overwintered here and has a few blossoms. My neighbor got one when I did and he dug it out this spring when it didn't start growing. I told him that the soil here had to be 70 degrees before it would grow. But it was too late at that point. I'll post a pic when it is blooming. It is white with raspberry center and lite raspberry emanating from that center.

I didn't know there were annual ones. Interesting! My friend just gave me a bunch of starts from her perennial one; I'm excited to plant them when they get a bit bigger!

Pea, are you up early or up all night? LOL This is the time I get up for work!
You have to read the labels to know which are perennial and annual. You could certainly grow the perennial in your zone, with winter protection.
