I am growing Howden pumpkins. Are you growing these for the flesh of the pumpkin, the seeds, or for Halloween? This should have been a year for us to grow pumpkins, but it's not gonna happen. Next year.

I grow sugar pie pumpkins every year and usually get 6-7 from one plant (after pinching off a couple).

DW, do you get squash vine borers where you live? They say we do, but fortunately I have not had them (knock wood). I've heard planting onions around squash and pumpkin repels them-not completely but quite a bit. I've also heard that onion spray on the leaves helps too.... blender of water with 2 onions, blend and let sit for several hours, then strain.

Pumpkins are sure fun to grow. The kids love them for carving. Note: They will cross with other varieties of squash and if you save seed from your pumpkins, next year you may get some weird looking hybrid cross fruits. That is if you had any other squash nearby.

I have tried everything and nothing really works although injections of bt right into the stem seems to work the best of all. The larvae develop inside of the stem so sprays are pretty ineffective and if you get even ONE SVB moth laying eggs, then your plant will die so if they are not ALL repelled then it won't work. I use succession planting with all of my squash so that when the first vines die, then I have another crop ready to produce. Pumpkins are not suitable for succession planting due to their long DTM.

I plant Small Sugar pumpkins for fall decoration on my front lawn with corn stalks and for pumpkin breads and pie.
