View from our imaginary deck on the back of the house, we only have steps there for now to exit from the kitchen, best thing we ever did was put a door there! The deck is in progress, 2 posts are installed. That green thing sticking up on the far right is the remains of a maple tree that we lost last May. It is showing some growth, just left it there for the time being, a conversation piece! I am looking for a birdhouse to mount on top of that tall stump. Will get rid of it when it gets out of hand. The wisteria needs some trimming for control, but waiting for the cardinal family to leave the arbortivae behind the pergola. On the left are hostas, right is the grass garden. I plan to dig out the grass behind this area to the fence line. Mowing is not easy. I am for less mowing and more growing. Save gas, right???

This all looks lovely. You have an artistic touch. Is that edging around the stump area? Is that difficult to mow along?

Pea, it is commercial grade edging. Not hard to mow around, just put the 2 wheels of the mower on the inside of the edging and the grass is cut even with the edging. The deck of the mower keeps the blade from hitting the edging. We have a push mower, not a rider. It's just tough to get the grass areas between the fence and beds. Just got the fence in last fall, so still learning about fences!
And Princess is such a peach when I am home, she doesn't tear through things. I notice when I am not home and it's just her and DH, there is evidence of her having jumped the garden fence. But no damage, I just see paw prints! Convicted! I do notice her walking through the unfenced areas, she goes around existing plants. Good girl.

She's learning.
Isn't that area back there a weed whack area? I am thinking of several flower garden areas and trying to decide whether to go with edging or not.

I always enjoy seeing your gardens, mumsey, through all their seasons and changes.

This edging is great for keeping grass from creeping in to the beds. It is not the cheap grade you find at Menards, it's sturdier stuff from Home Depot and is much wider (goes deeper into the ground). You have to let it sit in the sun to warm up in order for you to work with it. It lasts for years. Landscape blocks are nice but too pricey and too much work, not to mention heavy. I like the clean edge it creates, and unlike other edging choices it doesn't take your eye away from the bed itself. Don't even consider the cheap stuff, it doesn't last.
Valley View is the maker of the product. (No this is not a paid advertisement!)

DW, it is a work in progress. Wish we could post video here, I'd love to take a walking tour of your gardens!

(well, and which reminds me of how I wanted to post a pic of Kitty amusing her self with a toy - a little video clip - and it wouldn't let me...)
I like the way you think Lil and Mum

Thanks y'all.
That would be so awesome to see each of us touring our gardens! Maybe when we are all in that mid summer lull and the gardens are lush we could tape our gardens (and kitty) and place it in PB.
Has anyone put videos in PB?

I went to Photo bucket (PB) and saw that we can place videos there, besides our photos. I've never done that but I guess it's possible.
Mumsey-Are you putting your pics in PB before posting them here? Though it's an extra step, it's the best way to avoid taking up storage space here at our new site. Rodale use to pay for huge storage capacity. We have a free site here- up to a certain amount. Once we hit that amount we would then have to pay for storage. So storing the pics off site at a place like PB will save us.

Yes, I do use photobucket. The "PB" just didn't ring a bell in my head! It's very east to use, much easier than in the past.
