Double yikes! I hope your son recovers quickly, w/o any side effects.
Have you told the hornets they have to relocate? Time to evict them!

Here's a new one for me...this little worm is devouring a carolina reaper pepper, and loving it. (sorry for the blurry pic)

Wonder what kind of butterfly that caterpillar will turn into. Certainly a hot one.

Ambrosia, or ragweed...the most mis-named genus of plant ever. All it's good for is to make folks sneeze. We have both the common and giant varietes, and we ripped up a bunch of that stuff today. If it goes to seed, it'll be around til kingdom come. A-CHOO!

Eureka! I have finally located the main yellowjacket nest! I was in the right place with the sun shining at the right angle, and there they were flying in and out of it --- the Fountain of Pain. Sevin dust (the only time I ever use it) down the opening to-night, and they're totally gone by the day after to-morrow.

Read an interesting article today about the multitudes of tiny beneficial wasp species about, and it dovetailed with what I've seen since I've been paying attention to them. You need a magnifying glass to see many of them, but they're all around and hard at all kinds of good work. Momma Nature --- I do swear, she never ceases to amaze me.

Great information, thank you! I've noticed some dark spots spreading across several plants now, so I'm sure a disease is taking over. If I remove these plants, will I remove the disease as well? Or is it in the soil?

In order to answer we would need to know what kind of plants, where it is planted (outside, inside), environmental conditions- is it winter in your area, what are the temps, how much water are they getting and other pertinent information. Would help if you added your general location and zone as a signature line. emily79,

Odd to be posting about insect pests this time of year, but we're having a local swarm of brown stink bugs. Some venture indoors, but not a big problem so far. The same thing happens with ladybugs from time to time. Ah, well.
