I've never grown them before, but now that many flower vendors no longer include them in bouquets, am thinking maybe I'll try to grow some myself.

Years ago, I had some in the flower garden. It returned yearly, and then it didn’t. Poof. Gone.
I’ve thought about replacing it, but apparently I haven’t thought hard enuf, since there is none in my garden.

Have grown baby's breath in the past and it will reseed if you allow some to go to seed, but it can also be succession planted to help them keep going through the summer. I did see a flower grower mention that she no longer uses baby's breath but now likes Sapenaria, which is a pretty branching plant with small pink flowers that she said is really good as a filler flower. I have it on my list to try.

Thought I spelled that wrong but I think it is Sapenaria, also have seen it spelled Saponaria.

Thought I recognized that word. Sapo (sapon) is Latin for soap. Saponaria is the scientific term for soapwort. The name is fitting as it was used to make a mild soap. Pretty, too. Flowers look similar to phlox.

Flowers look similar to phlox. That's why I prefer the Baby's Breath for most bouquet fillers. The Soapwort flowers are too large for my taste.

I like to use queen Annes Lace or other wildflowers for filler. There are some smaller wildflowers that are pretty and that I don't have to plant.

I like to use queen Annes Lace I use Queen Anne's Lace sometimes as well when it's in season. Sometimes we even get some pink ones show up in our yard & fields. But it depends on what other flowers I'm using, as sometimes the umbels are just too large. Again - another reason why I like Baby's Breath.
