DD has this plant. Anyone use it? Can be a houseplant and grown outside. I’m taking a cutting home! Grand DD got it from greenhouse at her college. It’s my job to re-pot it today.

I remember growing that one time, because it was also called Mexican Mint. Not the same as Mexican oregano, and I only grew it that one year - I wasn't crazy about the flavor, and didn't really find any dishes I was crazy about with it. I've tried sprouting some Mexican oregano seeds (a lot of tiny seeds in the dried oregano), and got a few to grow, but barely. I'll try again...

pepperhead212, mexican mint is also very similar to Indian borage, at least from what I can find. I picked up some plants years ago labeled mexican oregano, grew them but didn't crush or dry the leaves to determine what kind of scent it had. I do know that it is a real bee magnet. I transplanted some in another area and it grew, but didn't survive the winter. But this summer I found a number of plants that had come up from seed that I salvaged and have potted in the garage. I hope it can be transplanted in the spring and get established. Mumsey, Etsy has a number of pictures showing what sellers are using to hawk their seeds of 'cuban oregano' or 'mexican mint'...that may be a way to see what you may have. I did see that it may have a slight turpentine smell besides other scents, so it will be interesting to see what you have.

It has fuzzy leaves and very fragrant when you touch the leaves.

I forgot about that name for it, and when I looked it up, I remembered how many more names there are for Coleus amboinicus! I also saw something else I had forgotten - the genus it is in - Coleus - is something with countless ornamental species, a few of which are edible, but most are poisonous, so I wouldn't try them! I didn't notice that turpentine like aroma, like I do with epazote - another Mexican herb that I grow, and use in a lot of things.

I was given a cutting a few years ago but failed to bring it inside before frost. I'll admit I didn't try eating it because the fuzz just didn't look appetizing.

Potted this thing up several weeks ago. It's sitting beside the Aero Hydroponic lights. Look at the size of those leaves!! My hand is in there somewhere. It seems to like lots of water. Might have to put in a bigger pot soon.
