Even though the garden isn’t fully tidied up from the previous growing season, I’m on the hunt for items for the next growing season. I found some 7 gallon grow bags…a 10 pack right at $20. I plan to use some of these for any new dahlia tuber purchases. I purchased the black bags this time, thinking they will disappear down in the deep of the dahlia foliage. I’ve been reading so much about folks purchasing dahlia tubers that are infected with disease, I thought the bags might be a preventative, if I do make new purchases. Since our son lives in the big city, and Menards isn’t far from his home, I asked him to bring some Pro Mix when he came for Thanksgiving dinner. So, there’s 2-2 cubic feet bales sitting on the driveway, looking for a home. I’m ready…no searching for affordable planting mix when the tomato babies need a transplant next spring. And, my supply of 24 ounce cottage cheese containers is on the increase. I like them for starting onion seed/shallot seed. The onion babies create the most beautiful root system in the deeper containers. Gardening…always on my mind. Are you gathering next season’s supplies? Seeds probably count too.

Just the new greenhouse so far. I got a seed catalog the other day. Totally Tomatoes. I don't order from them, but fun to look at.

Funny you should mention that. I have 30 bags of Sea Soil sitting under a tarp in my carport, 8 bags of starting mix in my "plant room", a case of Cow Pots and a case of plant domes waiting for next year. Over the Winter I will re-arrange my shelves and inventory all my supplies.
Don't even get me started on seeds. Heh, heh. ;)

Thank you, madamezil. You win. I feel better knowing that I’m not alone in “supply gathering”.

The only thing I've done so far is gather up & wash all the plastic strawberry clamshells Mr. Breezy saves for me. I particular like them for starting lettuce & other greens.

And I'm the loser. When I stop in the Fall/November, I am so done for a while. By February I'll be biting at the bit to get going again.

I'm always gathering supplies when I can find them. Right now I'm trying to wrangle up all the peat pots I still have left. I've pretty much quit using them, but have enough left to either do peas or early Fava beans in the spring. Still need to organize all the ProMix I bought on clearance and maybe bring one inside. Also have those four bags of seed starter that Burpee sent me by mistake and told me to keep. Hubby grabbed some cell packs that the neighbor was tossing and along with what mom saves for me I should be set for the year. I need to spend a day cleaning up pots I used last year and get them ready for tomato and pepper transplants again. Also have a stack of mushroom containers to burn holes in as I love them for starting seeds. I've also inventoried my seed stash and added a few more too.

Also have a stack of mushroom containers to burn holes in Used to have a long metal skewer that I would heat up on the burner and run through a whole stack of containers at once. Sometimes they were various free produce containers and other times they were cheap but new deli containers. Now I just order a bunch of square nursery pots 3.5" square x 4" deep. Most of them survive a lot of years so I don't need to order a resupply often.

Do compostables count? Scored some heavy boxes for my paths and a box full of shredded brown packing material.

So rough estimate, at least a ton of stone and blocks moved this week in preparation for new beds and bed expansions. My trusty garden cart has been a lifesaver!

Yesterday Mr. Breezy broke out his cordless drill & made a gazillion holes in the bottoms of my plastic wintersow gallon water jug collection.

I've got all my soil, purchased a while back, ProMix 2 cu.ft. bags. And all the water bottles are cut and ready to go, except for 2 more bags sis brought me last week.
Question, to control the fungus gnat larvae, is it OK to mix some DE in the soil mix? Never used it before. Can't see why not......

While organizing the shed today I came across more peat pots that mom had sent with me a few years ago. Also two small waterproof camping boxes that are just the right size for seed packets. Now if I can just get in the habit of using them. Will be much better than seed packets crumpled in my pocket and an asset if accidentally forgotten outside. Hubby also told me he found a box of PVC pipe and fittings and asked if I wanted it in the shed. Lo and behold it was the PVC light stand mom used for a few years! So with that one and the one I have, that's room for eight more flats.
