Earlier this summer while I was in the garden, I saw a car stop at the intersection of our roads. I heard the car door slam and then it left. My first thought was a trash/litter dump. When I got to the road, there sat this kitty at the side of the road. He had been dumped. I called him and he came to my garden cart, looking for love.
I had some cat food on hand…figured if he was going to be around, he should have some food. When I came out to feed him, he was gone. Never saw him again until a few days ago. He’s (she?) very thin…gobbles everything I give him. He’s extremely affectionate, rides on the garden golf cart, gets on my lap, gets up on the back cart cushion…basically crawling all over me. And he really wants to come into the house. And he purrs. Quite the salesman, he is.
Did I say that I didn’t want another cat? What to do…
in the meantime, Amazon has delivered a case of catfood. Each container is 5.5 ounces and it’s gone in a flash…twice a day. A chipmunk or two would help to fatten him up.

Did I say that I didn’t want another cat? What to do… Well - you've got another cat. Let him in the house & get him used to things before winter.

Kitty is still an outdoor kitty. He has food and water, access to the barn, and he loves the golf cart. He may be taking driving lessons by way of observation.
Two more cats have been dumped in our area…I doubt they just wandered in. One is a black calico and she looks like she is pregnant. The other is a larger yellow/white cat and seems to be shy.

So sad people think dumping cats is OK. Most of them just don't make it very long, esp if they've been a house cat. One of our local shelters has a night drop off. No questions or forms. Drop the cat off in the provided spot, and leave. It's a no-kill shelter, though sometimes euthanizing a sick or injured animal is the more humane thing to do..

So sad people think dumping cats is OK. Agreed. Most of our cats over the years were dumpees, especially when I was boarding my horse back in NY. It's like "Oh, there's a barn - kitty would love that". Uh, no - kitty does not like that. At one point we owned TEN cats - all indoor-only - & all dumpees with various health issues.

Same thing happens at Dad's, his current population is 6. All female and no one is pregnant again...yet. There was a litter of kittens in the Spring, coyote or something got 4 of the 5. It's impossible to neuter them all, gotta catch them first and it's very expensive. Then they disappear.

When out by the barn yesterday, I heard a car approach the stop sign at the intersection. Since nobody stops at that stop sign, and that car did, I stepped to where I could see. Yes, I’m the nose of the neighborhood. Car stopped, driver got out and opened the back door. Seconds later, the door slams and driver drives off. Since I was looking through the evergreens, my view was distorted, so I went to the stop sign area to snoop…no cat…no garbage.
This was the 4th time I’ve seen a silver car stop at the intersection, but only the first time am I sure a cat was dropped. That cat is the one who likes my golf cart. And there’s still two new cats in the neighborhood.

It's impossible to neuter them all, gotta catch them first and it's very expensive. I'd contact your local animal control for vet names, clinics, etc., that do free or low-cost neuters/spays for dumped cats. We're lucky to have several around here, but since we ALWAYS end up keeping the darn things, we just use our regular vet (who frequently cuts us a deal, because we're such saps - lol!).

Bless you binnylou! All my fur babies, and yes people think I have too many, are adopted or re-homed. Don't care, wouldn't have it any other way.

When filling the cat’s water dish today, he was more interested in the spray attachment on the garden hose than he was in the bowl of water. I turned the water down to a trickle and he drank from the stream of water, not bothered by sprinkles getting on his feet and face. Makes me think his previous home had a leaky faucet in the house and that was his water supply.
He still likes the golf cart, I tell him to “sit down” and he sits…and off we go. Then he decides he’s had enough and prepares to jump. Have to slow down for the jump as he has no fear of being in front of the moving cart. I need a horn.
Hubby mentioned that “we’d have to get a new cat carrier”. Daughter put our cat carrier and dog kennel out at the driveway with a “free” sign on them.

We have several black polydactyls in our neighborhood. People feed them regularly and keep bowls outside for them.

There are several feral cat colonies in my broad area. Any new arrivals are trapped and neutered, then returned to 'the wild' if they are truly feral (as opposed to house cats that people just abandoned, or that had run away) People feed them regularly.
