Has anyone grown this? I've never seen it before, supposedly it's not only extremely ornamental, but unlike quite a few "ornamental" herbs, it's supposed to be just as tasty for cooking/eating as traditional basils. I'm tempted.

I have grown it, this is the second year. It is quite showy when it blooms. The leaves are tougher than regular basil and a darker green. Great as a cut flower, and it lasts literally for 2 weeks! Pic is from last year, they haven't bloomed yet this year. I have not used it for eating, just for the ornamental value. Tastes like basil.

Thanks! I'd probably grow it in addition to other basils I grow rather than "instead of". I thought the flowers would be brighter red than that, but perhaps I'm a victim of advertising "photographic enhancement".

They do bloom out into pale pink flowers.
