The reading I have seen suggest that only trace elements would leach out including zinc which occurs naturally in soil and also needed by the body. But rusting may still occur over time.
Thinking about trying one for a raised bed.
What do u think?

I have used galvanized stock tanks to collect water and galvanized water can, for decades, and have never had rust form. I say go for it.

lilolpeapicker, they're pretty popular now and I've been growing in old washtubs for years, so I agree with desertwoman and say go for it!

I have 3 as planters, they do tend to eventually rust at the bottom and I leave them in place all year. I think if I move them, the bottom might fall out. One is an old corn bucket that I rescued from Dad's "stash", it was rusting when I got it. Holes in the bottom are good for drainage.
