I would love some seeds!! I've always been drawn to black hollyhocks after seeing a very striking stand of black Hollyhocks "Nigra" in someone's cottage-style garden. Will PM you my address. Again, thanks!

Me too! I've been keeping my eye out for that color, around town, to pick a pod of seeds but haven't come across them yet.

Fun fact: Thomas Jefferson loved hollyhocks, & hollyhock "Nigra" was a favorite. I visited Monticello, & they've reseeded there all over the place. Here's a clip from The Thomas Jefferson Foundation Monticello website. "In a 1782 Garden Book entry Thomas Jefferson composed a chart of "a Calendar of the bloom of flowers" that showed his Monticello Hollyhocks flowering from mid-June through July. Hollyhocks are currently naturalized at Monticello in the Vegetable Garden, and are possibly descendents of those plants Jefferson observed in 1782." www.monticello.org/house-gardens/in-bloom-at-monticello/hollyhock/

I got some of the black hollyhock seeds from Monticello as a gift so will try to grow those for next year. I think now is the time I can direct sow some of the hollyhocks so they can bloom next year. Planted some of the Chanters doubles two years ago and they were all singles, so notified the seed company and they sent me a replacement packet, test planted one and it was a double white. Hoping to plant a few more now to get some other colors for next year and hope they are all doubles too.
