Daiya is a really good cheese substitute. Is it like a good cheddar? No it's not. But if you don't compare it and let it stand on it's own it is really tasty and melts beautifull. I like the monterey jack too. And sometimes combine the two.
The zucchini "noodles" are a great idea.
Where did you get that kitchen tool? What's it called?

The kosher stores here offer several brands of non-dairy cheese, as we don't cook milk and meat products together.
As for vine-borers, last year I finally bested them by injecting BT(Bacillus thurengensis) into the leaf stalks, from where it dripped down into the stems and killed the borer caterpillars. I couldn't seem to inject it directly into the stems, but the leaf stalks had a larger hollow space- you can actually see the BT liquid flowing down. Finally got some squash. Now I have to work on powdery mildew.

Sometimes I plant a few zucchini as soon as weather permits but also plant later, such as in July, after the borers have already attacked the first bait crop and I've dispatched them to a borer graveyard. Zukes grow so quickly that they can easily be planted later in the season.
I too am interested in that tool; apparently it's available only on tv? I'm going to try some local kitchen stores - looks like a great shredder/skinny slicer.

DW, supposedly by planting June 1 some of the bug stages have been missed. I have had decent luck with this in the past.

I get coupons for Bed Bath Beyond. The $5 off a purchase of $15 or more makes the veggetti $10! They also have 20% off coupons.

Yes - I don't like the amount of wrist movement involved, I'd like a powered alternative.
