Thought we'd try stating our goals by season this year.
My goals so far:
1. Add another bay onto the temporary compost bin as I fully intend to fill the first by summer.
2. Burn the brush pile where the greenhouse will be placed. Utilize as much of the ashes and charred bits as possible.
3. Concentrate on the area beside of the garage. Grew pumpkins there last year.
4. Weed paths in the old garden.
5. Lay cardboard and mulch paths in old and new garden.
6. Make a strawberry bed for runners that crept into new garden bed.
7. Utilize stacking planters for strawberries and lettuce.
8. Fill holes in 8" block bed and transplant extra alpine strawberries.
9. Retrieve remaining two cattle panels from old goat pen and get them ready for beans.
10. More flowers this year
11. Continue moving rocks from former shade garden.
12. Compost that last container of old chicken poop
13. Trim shrubs and chip as much as possible.
14. Get all of the chestnut burrs shredded and added to compost pile.
15. Call lady I talked to last year and set up a date to harvest bamboo for stakes.
Stuff that needs done if time permits (highly unlikely)
1. Paver and brick patio
2. Redo backyard bed in stone and brick to match herb bed.
3. Greenhouse construction
Yes my list is pretty long and subject to additions since we're spanning a three month period. So far I'm a bit laid-back about this gardening season and don't intend to kick myself too hard if I don't accomplish everything.

Already started. I don't make a list, I just find things to do.
Cut back burning bushes, done. Prep onion bed, next week. Start tomatoes, end of next week. Cut up more water bottles, next week. Rake up more leaves, whenever. But back Wegeila bush before it buds out.

First thing I need to do is figure out where everything is going this year. I flip the tomatoes from one side of the garden to the other every year, so that's in the plan. It's where to put the bean, cucumbers and cabbage. I also have to make a new trellis for cucumbers. The one I have been using is shot, literally falling apart. Tomatoes will be started next week too. Now if the weather would improve a little, we could get the show on the road. Supposed to get snow tomorrow.

Mumsey I hope you did not get burned while pruning the bushes. I will be testing more companion planting diagrams for my book.

Halfway through spring and thought I'd post an update on my progress: 1. Add another bay onto the temporary compost bin as I fully intend to fill the first by summer. I thought I'd have the first filled by now but it keeps hovering around knee-high as I add more and it keeps shrinking. 2. Burn the brush pile where the greenhouse will be placed. Utilize as much of the ashes and charred bits as possible. Burned the first pile and working on the second3. Concentrate on the area beside of the garage. Grew pumpkins there last year. Have some potatoes planted there and is a work in progress. 4. Weed paths in the old garden. In progress 5. Lay cardboard and mulch paths in old and new garden. Almost finisned6. Make a strawberry bed for runners that crept into new garden bed. Runners are June-bearers so waiting until they fruit to move them.7. Utilize stacking planters for strawberries and lettuce. 8. Fill holes in 8" block bed and transplant extra alpine strawberries. 9. Retrieve remaining two cattle panels from old goat pen and get them ready for beans. Retrieved them which let to the Great Poison Ivy Incident of 2023. Hubby is supposed to clean them off for me.
10. More flowers this year. Working on it.11. Continue moving rocks from former shade garden. In progress 12. Compost that last container of old chicken poop 13. Trim shrubs and chip as much as possible. 14. Get all of the chestnut burrs shredded and added to compost pile. Completed!!! 15. Call lady I talked to last year and set up a date to harvest bamboo for stakes. Additional goals 16. Pot up volunteer herb plant for plant exchange and to sell in August. In progress

I didn't make a list, but did have some general goals. Some are getting accomplished, others are lagging behind, but there is still hope, but no pressure. I've got the 'important' crops in the ground - peppers, tomatoes, more peppers, tomatillos, some flowers, and a few cabbages. And the more delicate basil, scallions, cilantro, and catnip doing well in smaller containers. The irrigation system (soaker hoses) has been worked on. And because of all our rains, the weeding, though still not completed, is going very well. The crew that weed whacks most of the down-slope hill (an acre) finished this past week, and everything looks better. I am behind on the zucchini and cukes, and flowers in general. The garden is smaller than most years, and that's just fine. One goal has been to lessen hand watering, and there is less of that. If you garden, there is always more to do... but in general this year is going well.

Good Lord - just getting back on track would make me happy. Several days of intense heat have kept me inside longer than I'd like, but my meds make me particularly susceptible to it, so I have to be careful.

Decided to do the final update as we head into summer and the only progress I've made since the last update (how can that be?) is to use the stacking planters for lettuce which has worked out great! Everything else is still progressing or not yet tackled and lots of small jobs not on the list have been conquered. Now to enjoy this dreary last day of spring and start thinking about summer.
