Carnation seed scattered on soil surface on 2/17 has sprouted as of 2/22. Seed was scattered and lightly pressed in, under lights. No heat mat used. I grew Carnations many years ago, but I’m sure it was from a greenhouse plant…before this seed addiction developed.

binnylou, I grew those years ago, many many years ago when we still lived in the big city! Kind of forgot about them.

My mom often had a stray carnation in the garden. Usually a commercial type that she would have started from a cutting. Occasionally one would bloom, and the scent was lovely. She also grew some short pink flowered ones in a border that we called Pinks.
Speaking of seed addition, err.. addiction, a couple years ago in a largish seed order from ebay, I ordered some of the Chabaud type carnation. Everything else came and did well, but those did not arrive. Probably just as well, lol.

Today was the day to pot up carnations. One 5 x 5 flat of scattered seed divided in to 7 chunks…each chunk having multiple starts. Still have another flat to repot…got distracted. The other flat will be repotted by day’s end. The growing rack is getting a bit crowded. These pots of Carnation plants will take up more room than they did when in flats. Once they adjust to their new digs, I think they can go to the plant trailer and learn to be outside plants. Update: I finished the Carnations up potting after supper. Full moon happens in a couple of hours, so I wanted to get them up potted tonight (silly me). The second flat divided in to 10 chunks of starts. What am I going to do with 17 pots of Carnations?
