I did the thing of cutting all the tops off in July. Supposed to keep them from falling over when they bloom in Fall. It worked! Smaller blooms but all upright and there are lots of them.

I had problems with Autumn Joy being floppy. I’ve had the same three plants for a lot of years. I had read that I shouldn’t offer fertilizer nor water, so I’ve adopted that practice, just watering when they are really dry.
What really helped is the short cage that used to surround the plants. The plants have grown larger and now engulf the cage, pretty much hiding it.

I grow Autumn Joy and have never had a floppy problem. They need very little water I was told this schedule: Water once a month under 70º once every 2 weeks 70-90º once a week over 90º I actually water less than that and don't feed them except for an extremely light crushed leaf mulch in the fall and a dusting of compost if I get the hit to do that (but not every year). These plants were taken as divisions 13 years ago from my plants in town

I never water or fertilize it either. It's called "Lives Forever" for a reason!
