Another month and another list of goals though I'm really not feeling the enthusiasm right now. 1. Continue harvesting 2. Continue preserving That's it! No unrealistic goals this time.

1. harvesting
2. freezing
3. start gradual clean up
4.transplant a trumpet vine volunteer I recently discovered (it's good size)
5. Maybe pot up an evergreen baby, that's about 8-10 inches. Not sure what it is- either a piñon or a ponderosa pine..
(4 and 5 were both hidden in a jungle of rain induced overgrowth I started to clean up last week)

Hmmm.. I'm wanting a break, but there are things that need doing.
1. after the heat is over, plant flower seeds for winter blooms. Snapdragons, Iceland poppies, and for next spring/summer, Rudbeckia. And some winter veg seeds - cabbages and ??
2. Continue mulching
3. More trimming and removing critter habitat.
4. Keep piling up stuff in compost heap

I need to think about what worked for me this year and what didn't. Then I have to remember to write it all down so I don't forget next year. I need to clean up a couple of areas that got overgrown again. I cleared it out in the spring, so it won't be too bad. Need to prep the onion and garlic bed for planting. Will be pulling cucumber and tomato plants by end of the month. Peppers are all in pots, so those are easy.

..a jungle of rain induced overgrowth... I have quite a bit of that right now. Found a blue morning glory climbing the weeds... er... overgrowth the other day. It's been several years since I planted morning glories and never in that area, so quite a pleasant surprise.

- Take down the last 3 old raised beds.
- Finish prepping all beds for the next planting.
- Start fencing the 'back 40' for Spring planting.
- Clone/graft fruit trees and blueberry bushes.
- Start a new asparagus bed.
- Finish all of the greenhouse to-dos except for putting on the plastic cover.
- Order seeds. Nope, it's not too early. They are already packed for 2023 so I'm buying 'em.

But then, what does 'need' have to do with it? I think it's wise to buy the fresh seed now while what you want is available, and store it well.

Start prepping the winter garden. I had a bunch of lettuce seedlings started, but something dug them up. Started them again. <grumble>

I need to chop down the corn in the front yard and replace it with cabbages and kales.
Maybe I’ll mow down all the zinnias in the front yard and replace them with winter ryegrass or purple mustard
Probably should deal with the poison ivy I’ve been ignoring for months at some point.
I’m trying fall onions for the first time this year, I usually start them from seeds in late December to transplant outside in February, but I keep reading that it’s better to transplant them out into the garden around October, so I need to sow seeds like yesterday 😂
I went pretty hard on carrots and brassicas and spinach last winter, so I feel like I should focus on something different this winter, maybe peas. Really want to plant some Merlot lettuce.
Forgot the most important goal. Find a couple days break in the rain and put out tons of fireant granules. It’s the one and only thing that I don’t go 100% organic on. I actually had fireants in the house last week with all the flooding. There is nothing more frightening than laying in bed at night terrified about the fact that millions of fireants are marching into your home, it’s truly the stuff of nightmares. Fireant venom is significantly more toxic than any of the insecticides used to kill fireants, so it’s the one aspect of my life that I’m willing to compromise on, there aren’t many organic fireant killer products and they are hard to find and insanely expensive. Fireants occasionally eat some garden pests which is cool, but they also eat beneficial insects and occasionally even destroy crops. And they aren’t supposed to be on this continent anyway.
