White wave petunias have sprouted. The purple waves are still resting. The stem of the sprouted petunias is finer than frog hair.
Update: purple Wave Petunias popped overnight. White petunias were planted 2/7 and the purple Waves were planted 2/4. They were on the same heat mat, but some areas of the heat mat are warmer than other areas.
Petunia babies are now snuggled in under grow lights. I had put the white ones under lights last night, and just overnight, the babies look less fragile.
Nothing says “Spring” like newly sprouted seed.

Waiting for petunias to break through, it's been a week. In the process of carrying celosia starts from the kitchen into the computer, exercise, planting lights room, I dropped the 12 cell inserts and have to restart this weekend. Marigolds have come through.

I started some white and red petunias yesterday. I needed something to watch beside those 5 onions.

Started petunias today too. A mix of various colors. I was getting tired of the same seed I've saved FOREVER! I do have one called Wild Petunia. The bloom is a little smaller and the plants tend to sprawl. Good for planters.

Mumsey, when I ordered seeds from Pinetree, I debated about changing colors in the deck planters. I’m addicted to the purple, so purple it is. I have no idea what I’m going to do with the white petunias.😮

binnylou I pretty much give up on white and yellow flowers. Seems the JBs are attracted to those colors. My luck all the petunias will probably be white, it’s a mixed package.

I spent too much on 3 black petunias last season for my daughter and kept one for myself..saved seed. I definitely do not expect them to be true. They were gorgeous! I saved and collected daughters seed at the picnic table and 2 yr old grandson watch me intently. I reached over for an envelope to collect when he decided to poof blow my pile into oblivion! Foolish grandma 😳🤦🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️ Live and learn.

Petunias are sprouting, after only 5 days. I used the Beyond Peat mix for them.

Mumsey, did you use heat or just lights? That’s great!

Wave Petunias are still waiting to be up potted. Maybe today…they are starting to trail…next comes the flower bud.
update~mission accomplished, along with a couple of Red Marconi peppers. The Petunias had wonderful root systems. That’s why I like starting them in a small tray instead of cell packs. Those roots can just wander to wherever they want.

Mine are still pretty small. Not even close to repotting.

I found flower buds on some of the Petunias.
Petunia seeds were planted 2/4 and 2/7. I didn’t look to see what color was setting buds.

While working in the laundry room last night, checking watering needs of plants growing on the plant rack, I was aware of fragrance. Sweet, spicy fragrance. I sometimes diffuse essential oils in the laundry room, but I hadn’t done that for a few weeks. Then I realized it was the white petunias, most of them loaded with bloom.
If that fragrance continues, they would be good to plant close to the pole beans. The fragrance is delicious.
