This time it’s the overflow hose from our rain barrel. The hose is reinforced black flexible “plastic”. Something ate about a foot of it, but only half of the wall. I can’t imagine what it could be made of that would attract a critter.
Possible suspects are mice, chipmunks, squirrels, ground hog, rat🤭. So it’s not only who, but why.

That is really strange, but it doesn't surprise me - those animals seem to chew things just to be chewing something! I would give them something to chew in a trap...

Do you have deer? You wouldn't think so, but deer LOVE chewing on both plastic & rubber. We've seen them in action on our lawn mowers.

Deer? It’s a deer haven. Two does and a six point buck on the yard late yesterday afternoon. Later I saw five running across the bare corn field. One on the yard about an hour ago. I’m thinking that buck is the one that scarred our trees this fall.
I didn’t know they would eat plastic. I’ve seen them visit our limestone wall…just stand there licking it.

I didn’t know they would eat plastic We've seen them working on the lawn-mower handles, as well as a few other plastic &/or rubber lawn/garden items. I don't know what the draw is.

I’d be afraid to say on this matter but as a side note I parked the tractor on the horses side of the fence one evening as unexpected friends stopped by and came to two bites out of the armrest of the tractor 20 minutes later.😂😂😂

Been there, done that, unfortunately.

When Ellie was a very young (6-14 weeks) kitten she chewed on the plastic coating around wires. She especially liked the wires for my computer and phone chargers. I figured it was a teething thing. Maybe something like that is going on?

I don't know what the draw is unexpected friends stopped by and came to two bites out of the armrest of the tractor My guess would be they like the salt in handles and armrests. Porcupines are notorious for chewing on wooden tool handles to get at the salt left from sweaty hands. You can always grab a salt block from Tractor Supply, put it out at the far edge of your property to see if that deters them.

You can always grab a salt block from Tractor Supply, put it out at the far edge of your property to see if that deters them. We did that for years, & really enjoyed watching both the deer & the rabbits gather at the blocks. Unfortunately we had to stop doing it 3-4 years ago because of CWD (Chronic Wasting Disease) showing up in the deer in our county. In fact, we alone found both a stillborn fawn as well as a young deer dead on our property, both of which Mr. Breezy promptly buried. No one in our county is now allowed to either put out salt or any type of feed for deer, since the disease easily spreads that way.
