First peas of the season which is probably my favorite harvest. These are from "Alderman" which grows 5-6ft tall and fits in well at the ends of beds on trellis. Not that many make it into the kitchen though I'm afraid and I only grow a short row just for the taste of them really. Whats everyones favorite pea variety, I think I need to diversify, the only other one I grow is "Sabre" which is a bush semi dwarf. What's everyone elses favorite first harvest of the season

My first favorite are my French breakfast radishes. But I've been growing Canoe peas for about 3-4 yrs. now. They have done better for me than some of the other varieties. I get more long, full pods with them. And I get my seeds from Territorial.

Fond of the scallions which I usually harvest first, but my favorite is the snap peas, hands down. I've got a row of Sugar Snap as well as a row of Cascadia this season. When I take the first sweet, crunchy bite, all is well with the garden and the world.

I have always done Mammoth Melting Peas, some of which I let them get just a tiny bit bigger so I can eat just the peas. Although I have eaten the whole thing often enough. But I am trying bush peas this year and am growing Green Arrow...

Asparagus is my favorite first crop but the peas come in second. I am growing mostly English peas but have half a row of sugar peas and half a row of sugar snap peas.

David,
I love peas too, and I have to wait a lot longer than you! hahahha
Knight peas last year:
I'm doing Alderman (Tall Telephone) this year, along with Knight again and Lincoln. All are Heirlooms.

Hoping to plant peas this weekend, and put in onions. It is supposed to get better this afternoon...Think I should put them in with more cool, damp weather for tomorrow and Friday? I shoulda done it last weekend but I knew the damp and cooler temps were coming so I decided to wait as with the potatoes.
