I usually wear a baseball cap for yard and garden trips under an hour, and a wide-brimmed floppy hat for longer summer afternoons. Before I had the trusty lemongrass-clove spray, I used to drape a bit of toule cloth underneath the hat to foil the gnats and mosquitos around my face...and sometimes I get wild and just let the old pate go nekkid. Do you wear a hat in the yard and garden?

I normally just wear a head scarf. I have very fine/thin hair & hate having it blowing around my face.

Always. I don't like sun lotion on my face because when I sweat, the lotion ends up in my eyes. I know that I'm still being subjected to reflected sunlight because I have the age spots to prove it. But, the ugly garden hat is better than nothing.

I wear a wide brim woven hat if I'm out for hours. But if I'm out for under an hour I tend not to. Not the wisest decision, but it feels so good to go hatless.

I wear baseball cap when mowing/fishing. Sometimes a wide brim if it isn't too windy.

Even when I had a full head of hair I always wore some kind of hat, usually a baseball type. Now with thinning hair, I wear a camo boonie hat whenever I am out in the garden.

If I know I'm not going anywhere and can take a shower after working in the garden, I wear a Baseball cap. Hat hair and all. Most of the time I wear a wide brimmed straw hat. I have three.

I have a full, thick head of hair. Strange women have occasionally walked up behind me and touched it. I'm guessing that they had a drink too many. My dermatologist says I'm fine. So I rarely wear a hat.

Occasionally I'll put on a ball cap but I usually slap sunscreen on my face, neck and top of my ears if I'm going to be in the full sun. I actually looked for a garden hat the other day but the men's boonie hats were all a dark color and the ones in the women's section looked too hot and uncomfortable. I guess I'll find one I like one of these days or a else a pattern to make one.

Sunday Afternoons makes good hats that are popular with hikers, fishermen (and women), gardeners, and others. www.sundayafternoons.com/I have a Riverz from SF Hat Co. I can't find the Riverz site, but they're sold at a variety of places online and in stores. SF Hat Co. carries hats by other companies as well. shop.sfhat.com/catalog/riverz-amphibious-hats

For those prone to basal cell skin cancers (I've had quite a few)... (basal cell cancer is almost exclusively from sun damage)...even with my full head of hair I have had 2 removed from my scalp! So hats are really important too. You can find hats that have UPF protection. They can be pricey but they last for years. I've had mine for at least 7 or 8 years and it shows no signs of breaking down. Its a 'Sunday Afternoons' brand. emmsmommy , don't forget your ear flaps too (those part we press when plugging our ears). I've had 3 removed from there!

Usually a woven straw lifeguard hat in the garden. When fishing, hiking, on the water I wear a lightweight crush-able nylon hat with a neck flap that doubles as a face covering.

I wear a ball cap, all day, every day. It keeps me from scratching my head.

www.rei.com/media/product/767086This is the hat I usually use for gardening as it covers my neck and whole face. desertwoman, I've also had cancer removed from my face and forehead, so the hat is essential. I have 2 of these hats, have them dry cleaned every year, and they've lasted at least 10 years.
