Has anyone ever made his/her own hand sanitizer? I've found some recipes, anticipating that my local stores may already have sold out.
There are a variety of recipes, with varying ingredients. The one I like is this one:

It's straight forward and seemingly easy to make.
Apparently some issues with other formulae are percentage of alcohol, potentially unsafe ingredients, etc.
With just isopropyl alcohol and aloe vera gel, it's much more simplified.

There's more discussion of this in Club OGC, under COVID 19 thread.

breezygardener, and Mumsey, thanks to you both. breezygardener, I've read the article you cited; seems like there's a lot more to consider than I anticipated. I realized all those little samples I collect at senior health expos will help add to my collection. I don't think I'll run out, but I want to be prepared in the event I do. I'll reread the article a few times and figure out what to do.

Omigosh........ go wash your hands with soap and warm water. Dry on a paper towel = clean hands.

You're right, James. Because soap breaks up fats and oils and does not evaporate so quickly, it is more effective in getting rid of bacteria. You don't see your surgeon washing with hand sanitizer before surgery. Hand sanitizer is mostly useful if there is no soap and water around.

Hand sanitizer is for when you don’t have access to soap and water. And it doesn’t have to be antibacterial soap.
