I got some African Violet potting soil. Now I notice little gnats in the kitchen. I assume they came with the soil. Suggestions to get rid of them? I have put out vinegar, but they don't touch it. I don't believe they are fruit flies.

If you have some of those mosquito dunks, for outside water in the summer, you can make a solution to water the pots with, which, eventually, stops the fungus gnats.
Cinnamon has been said to stop fungus gnats, but it didn't work for me. The Bt israelensis is the only thing that works for me, for the entire off season.

My father used to have a problem with little flies, as did I at one point, but I don't remember if they were gnats or fruit flies. We used cider vinegar, put in little plastic cups that I saved from meals out, with entry holes poked by a nut pick. Once the flies/gnats entered, they couldn't get out b/c the nut pick forced the plastic downward.
I tried something else, but I don't remember what it was, and it wasn't as effective as the cider vinegar. I think it's the cider vinegar that's the key, as opposed to plain vinegar.
Also did some quick checking: red wine is another solution. (And perhaps they'll have an opportunity to get drunk and die happier.)
I'm wondering if the potting soil was exposed to rotting fruit while it was in preparation stage.

The Neem oil seems to be working. I haven't seen but 1 or 2 gnats since applying it.

I'm glad you're having some success with the neem oil! It was a never-ending battle for me until I removed the gnat-infested plants from the soil, rinsed the roots and repotted in fresh, gnat-free soil. If you find you're going around in circles, you might need to try repotting each plant as gnats can spread like wildfire. Before you know it, every plant in the house will be infested. Good luck!

African Violet, like any other plant, can be exposed to disease or pests.
Common Pests Cyclamen Mite: It is almost impossible to eradicate this mite from the plant.
Treatment: It is better to separate the plants adjacent to the African violet affected by this pest.
