And are you willing to wait until it comes from YOUR garden? If you have a hunger for that "only fresh and homegrown will do" meal, do you wait? Or do you visit the farmer's market and hope a vendor might have what you are waiting for?
I have been hungry for a meal sized soft shell taco...decorated with homemade refried beans, taco meat, onions (green thin sliced onions from the garden), shredded lettuce (baby kale from the garden might work), shredded cheese, LOTS of chopped home grown TOMATOES, sour cream and salsa (from my freezer).
It won't be long, but I'm willing to wait. This taco just wouldn't be the same with one of those picked too early tomatoes from the store.
What are you hungry for?

Tomatoes! I never buy a store bought tomato and I am so ready for tomato season. BLT's, TLT's, tomato and fresh basil salads, my rustic tomato sauce with fresh basil and garlic, sun golds popped whole into my mouth while gardening, or from a bowl to snack on. Those are my favorites.

Green beans and sweet corn. The beans are starting to produce and I could eat a batch every day. The corn is starting to tassel and it won't be long before I can go and pick a few ears to have for dinner. The patch is only about 4' x 8", but we get quite a few meals. And I am looking forward to using the InstantPot to steam a couple of fresh picked ears.

Tomatoes, number one! And of course, hot peppers, mainly because I can't get most of the ones that I grow locally. Also herbs - even if they are available, and most aren't, there is nothing like freshly cut herbs! This is why I eventually started growing hydroponic herbs, in the off season.

Butternut squash. I have been waiting weeks for them to ripen. Today some stems are beginning to turn, so I can harvest one next week.

Eggplant, I am ever so patient! I never buy them in the store, they are usually turning soft. Second would be tomatoes, then green beans.

Salads with fresh spinach and either leaf or Romaine lettuce. And raspberries; none of my bushes grew to full height and fruited. That's unusual, as typically the vines are very energetic. The mulberries didn't fruit well either; none of the berries even reached about 1/3 their normal size. And the telltale purplish/blush splotches on the driveway were severely limited, so I'm thinking the birds and raccoons didn't enjoy their usual summer berry meals either.

Fresh corn on the cob. You may buy some at the store, but it is not fresh picked. You want good corn put the pot on to boil, go pick the corn, husk it and drop it into the hot water.

With the newer varieties that don't break down the sugar into starch, you could stroll in. No need to run anymore.

We are starting to see sweet corn being sold on street corners. It started out at $7/dz. Now its $5-6. It's the earlier varieties which are not near as good as the later ones.

Finally had that soft shell taco, complete with garden tomatoes. It was worth the wait.

First corn then tomatoes. No corn this year but sliced tomatoes on EVERYTHING. If I had to choose 2 veggies to grow it would be these 2.
