I took the time to vaccuum my house...badly needed it. Maybe tomorrow or Friday, but probably week/end for taters...will be cool but peas will go in also. Too late for today...have to go back to work soon.

Vacuum???? What is that? This time of year unheard of! But I must do it at least once a week due to dog hair. You know about dog hair, right? It's not only a fashion accessory, it's a condiment! The Dyson Animal vac is great for all that.

I am in and out of the house and often track in some of my yard with me...and my cat tracks out some litter(she doesn't cover up inside the box...I have a hood on it and she stands outside it and pile it in front of the opening, falling out on the floor) so I HAVE to get to clean that up or it will be all over the house by my socks that will pick it up and goes with me. I am not real meticulous when I am doing my seeds so I also get some potting soil on the floor, too. Between my cat and me, we make a mess!

I hear ya! Princess has not bothered my seedlings. She does track in mud during rainy times, for which I give her a treat and send her to the basement where we put paws in bucket and dry with old towels! She is getting better about that also, used to be a real challenge!
Then she likes to be my snuggle bug on the couch. More hair. Thankfully that's the only piece of furniture she gets on.

We have a sectional couch..it's long. Good thing otherwise there would be no people room. It was cute in the beginning to hold their warm bodies on the couch...but 90+ dogs who are sweet and still think that they are lapdogs is a construction of my own making

The Colorado Potato Bug has made its appearance, as predicted. I have some diatomaceous earth, I read that it can help. What say you, and i guess maybe a coffee can with holes drilled in the lid can be used to spread the stuff? My potatoes are otherwise looking great despite battling voles, I'm winning finally, on that one.

For the CPB I do a daily walk thru and hand squish all of the adults, larvae and eggs that I see. I wear gloves by BTW. Ick to doing this bare handed.
Anyway it works wonderfully well but sometimes I seem to have a population explosion and I resort to spraying the plants with Spinosad. This only works on the larvae, not the adults but usually I only have to spray one time, two times at the most.
I have never tried DE but maybe I will this year since I do have some that I use in the chicken coop.

Unbelievable. When I posted yesterday morning, I had only seen two CPB's on one plant. Last evening when I went to the garden there were hundreds upon hundreds of them AND the potato bugs. I salted them with DE heavily, I can't see how they could have survived that. Its unbelievable how much destruction they did in just a short amount of time. If I hadn't gone up there they may have destroyed my potatoes by today or tomorrow.

Those larvae grow really fast. One day they are black dots and before you can blink twice, they look like larvae all over the plants.
Each beetle lays lots of eggs and they all hatch at once so there can be a population explosion in a short period of time. Killing the adults is important and I don't think that DE will affect them. I hand pick them daily and of course I still get larvae, just not as many as I would have had if not hand picking the adults.
