A TV newscast also reported the discovery, showing the transfer of the cat into a cage for removal to a shelter. Consideration will be given by the Michigan DNR whether to return it to the wild, or transfer it to a zoo.
I wondered why that wouldn't be obvious; caging it in a zoo would be cruel.
One newscaster said this was the first time a lynx had been seen in Michigan in 100 years; other reports are that it's just rare.
If this is a 100 year event, I'm wondering what brought it this far South, presumably either from Canada or the Michigan UP, and whether or not its travels to the Lower Peninsula were occasioned by climate change. Michigan has been warmer, but also colder.
It's a beautiful creature, looks very healthy, and I hope it survives a very short captivity before it's released back into the wild.
Forgetting for a moment that it's wild, I was thinking how nice it would be to pet it; its fur is lovely, and so healthy looking. I also wonder if it's full grown, and if so, if there's a mate somewhere.

I hope they are moving back into former territory. They might just be starting to expand.
For the past few years theres been a few wolves slowly coming back into far north east California.
I heard in Europe wolves are being seen in places where they've long been exterminated. Edge of Berlin, france
Are there wolves in Michigan, I think I remember hearing somewhere that there were which surprised me.

May just be making a comeback in Mi. where it once was. We use to have black bear and red wolves in Texas then they all supposedly disappeared. Now both have been spotted again. My thinking is they were always here just not seen by people.
I do hope they let the cat back to the wild, it would be shame to cage him.
