Mumsey, last year the temperature here dropped to -1, a record low. The birds weren't prepared for it. There were at least ten dead birds around my sister's house. She's rather squeamish and let me know about it.

tom π, haven't seen many birds the last couple days. Not even at the feeders. I worry for the Decorah Eagles, they will be nesting and laying eggs in a couple weeks!

I was reading that during times of extreme cold, they seek sheltered areas and don't move around so much in an effort to conserve body heat. They also have awesome down coats. Yes, glad they don't have eggs laid yet.
