I grew sweet potatoes for the first time last year and got a decent crop. My question is how to store them. I dug them and then kept them in the garage for about two weeks then move them to the basement. I think they all shrivel up in about two months . They were kept in a mesh bag hanging from the floor joist. Anyone got any suggestion's on how to store them?

Spread them out in a single layer on some boards or on shelves.

I store mine in shallow boxes with open tops. Only two or three layers deep. The boxes go on the basement shelves, which is usually around 60 degrees during the winter. There are still some nice ones down there that I need to use up. Occasionally some of the smaller ones get shriveled, but most of them keep fine until spring. I do try to leave the best looking ones for last, so I use up the ones that might have spoiled by mid winter.
I think the key is making sure that the skins dry and harden promptly after harvest. For a week or so after harvest, they should be kept in a relatively warm, dry place.
