This is Roast Beef's first year living with us during my seed starting period. He's my new intern gardener. As I have been telling people, he's got a great passion for the work, but he doesn't achieve the best results. I thought you guys may appreciate the humor in these photos. Here are a few where Roast Beef is enjoying a salad bar while I am watering the seedlings. My pepper seedlings all suffered quite a bit. They were on the bottom rack of my seed starting cart. All of them looked like this. Between Beefy's attack of the seedlings on the bottom shelf and the attack of the seedlings during watering, I knew I was going to have a huge issue when my cart filled up and I had to put my seedlings on the floor and set up my floor model grow lights. I decided I would purchase a second cart and just put the flats on the second and third shelves of each cart and not use the floor model stands. I thought that if I didn't use the bottom rack of the carts, my seedlings would be safe. I came home from work on Friday to a crime scene. Start at the top left. Roast Beef jumped from the console table onto the second rack of the cart. He tread on zinnia seedlings, chard seedlings, gomphrena seedlings, ate the tops of of all of my bunny tail seedlings, completely smashed a dill plant, and then jumped down to the floor, tracking dirt everywhere. This is where we are now. A huge piece of cardboard is hanging on the front of the first cart with binder clips to prevent Sir Bouffage from jumping from the console table to the second rack of the cart. The ball is back in The Beef's court. He's lucky he's so cute.

Yep Waldo the Boxer, pulled an entire tray of starts over 2 years ago when he was about 7 months old. None of them were labeled since I had a graph of their layout. It was the spring of the mystery plants, at least the ones that survived.

Yes and he looks so innocent! I had a talk with Nellie, our stray last week. I have a planter that she routinely dines on in the sunroom. I told her that if she decided to start nibbling on my tomato and pepper seedlings that she was being returned to living outdoors at the car lot where we got her. Hubby said "No we won't Nellie" but I said "don't try me".
So far the seedlings have been untouched but I am wondering what will happen when I start putting my trays of seedlings on the front porch during the day and bringing them into the house and onto the foyer floor at night. I may need to remind Nellie of our "talk"

restless OMG! Bad cat!!!! Cute cat!!!! He swears he didn't do it! Maybe get him a catnip of his own. Amazingly The Princess (dog) does not bother anything. She doesn't even drink from the bucket of water I have sitting by the plant racks, nor does she bother the fish emulsion bottle. Just once of saying "get outta there" and she never goes back. She has learned quite well what is hers and what isn't. Hope you get him trained and happy with his own stuff.

The other two cats never bothered with plants. Gulfcoastguy, I remember when your dog did that! 2 years ago? Wow! Brownrexx, I hope Nellie behaves! Mumsey, he's a silly cat. He's very enthusiastic and awkward about everything. He's cute and entertaining.

I have an assistant gardener too, the neighbor's cat who believes she's family. She was in the garden with me, yesterday, as I set out to plant peas. She was of great help, first assessing the condition of the soil by walking up and down my rows, then tasting each pea (which had been soaked overnight) to make sure they were suitable for planting. What would I do without her.

I just found these pictures! Gees, I was hunting down restless to find out how it is to be MARRIED and your first tax return being married! hahahha Was marriage worth it? Waving. I was at Mom's this morning for a bit and she has 2 indoor cats and an outdoor cat they adopted. The guy lives up the street but sleeps and eats at their house. Strange set up and a story if ya ask me. Anyway, the indoor cats have a cat door that lets them on this outside deck, that they can't get off of. And I happened to be there when the game, "don't let the cat in the cat door" was going on...............One cat won't let the other in. It's a stand off game. Oh Brother. And this happens every morning. Note to self............NEVER go to mom's at 8:00am again. Always go after work, like usual, when the cats sleep.

An update: I had to cover the access to both sides of the seedling carts with old sheets/table cloths because The Beefiest ended up figuring out how to get to the seedlings from each side after a few weeks. This is the first time I have started plants indoors during which I have been absolutely certain they would be safer outside than inside.

Luckily Nellie took my advice and didn't touch my seedlings but I keep finding little piles of liquid with chewed up spider plant leaves in it on the floor in the sunroom. I will be glad to get this big planter outside.
