desertwoman, luckily after waiting around to see the doctor who never made it, we missed most of the wind on the drive back. The first twenty miles or so were wicked and amazingly very few limbs down here. What's really amazing is that it was 68° when I left this morning and 62° now. Grass in the backyard is greening up.

We had about 10 minutes of rain yesterday from what was supposed to be a big deal. Lucky us!

Got to 50° today - cooler, but still above average. It was around 40° when I left a friend's house about 9 pm, and it will stay just above freezing tonight. One more cool day, a little above average, then next week it is supposed to start going up again, getting back into the 60s! I remember last February was warmer than normal, and I started some cold weather seeds early, as a result.

It was very sunny and 48° at 9 am, when I went to Aldi's, and 58° is the forecast high. Two highs this week forecast for 65°...in February!! Only one day forecast for about average, then back up. I won't complain!

The girls are really enjoying the mid February sunshine and 53 degree temperatures. They better be ready to stay inside tomorrow as rain is predicted for the day.

It's winter wonderland out there. Started out with rain. We just got enough snow over the past 45 minutes to cover everything, tree limbs too, about an inch. It's a wet snow. More expected all night. Could get 4-6 inches. We'll see. This comes after a weekend of sunny mid 50s. Even earlier today got to a sunny 52 It's a really weird winter this year.

It's a really weird winter this year. It's a weird winter every year. This year, so far, is like the one we experienced around twenty years ago when we first moved to the area. The snapdragons and other flowers didn't die from cold and bloomed early in the spring without any replanting. Other years the bay froze over and there was ice everywhere. If you live long enough, you may see all kinds of variations on normal, if there is a normal.

It's a weird winter every year. I respectfully disagree. Yes I've lived long enough to see all kinds of variations, however there is definitely a fundamental change in patterns.

however there is definitely a fundamental change in patterns. What many don't take into account is that human time is not geological time. Some patterns run more or less often. Cycles can run over a few hundred years or even much more. Keeping detailed records of weather is relatively new, so you may hear of a terrible hurricane blizzard combo and think it is the first time something like that has occurred. If you look into old newspapers, though, you will see it has happened before, when such storms didn't even have names given. Another thing people don't realize is that damage today is much worse for some, so we think the storm was worse. For example, many more people live and build in hurricane zones so damage dollar amounts are higher. Similarly, in countries where building codes are routinely ignored when bribes are given, there are many more lives lost in both storms and earthquakes.

It's already 64° here and sunny at 2 pm, and forecast to get 66° today and tomorrow.
And by 4 pm, while I was outside, it was up to 68°!

We got 5 inches of snow yesterday into this AM, with a frigid high of 23 predicted today and overnight low of 7. But the sun just came out over the past hour- sparkling blue skies and dark grey clouds piling up again over the eastern mountains. More snow predicted around dusk.
