Next two days highs in the 20s, then back to the 40s Sunday, then back to the 50s several days in a row. And originally the low Friday night was forecast for 7°, but now the low is forecast for 14° - still cold, but not as cold as originally planned.

-4 and bright sunshine. So bright in fact, I had to move from the kitchen table because the sun shines just right and is blinding me. Supposed to go up into the 30's tomorrow.

Really windy last night. Didn't put out the garbage for this morning's pick up because I didn't want to be looking for the cans all over the neighborhood. Took water out to the chickens in the afternoon, because of hose-froze. The heater under their waterer is working, but there was only an inch of melted water in there covered by a skin of ice, not enough to drain into the water trough. I noticed that some containers and a large bin had blown out from the gate area to the coop at the back of the yard. Was too busy concentrating on carrying the water and some scraps to notice that a section of the fence had blown down until I was closing the gate on the way back to the house. It was a section removed when they needed access to cut down the tree a few years ago, so maybe it wasn't nailed back as tight, but I still think that was some wind. Should begin to warm up daytime next week, so I won't have to keep hauling water. Meanwhile, chickens are up to laying three eggs a day. Spring is coming.

Slept through the little shake this area got. There have been 21 earthquakes over 1.5 in NY in the past 365 days, 6 in the last 2 months. I remember a number of years ago my husband and I were by the table when the ceiling light began to sway. We both said "earthquake" at the same time. Being we both taught earth science, we knew right away that it wasn't just a heavy truck passing by.
