Princess sat there for an hour, she had a squirrel "treed" in the pergola. It would jump back and forth from the pergola to the tree. Silly dog. Couldn't even lure her away with a treat.

I put a bird feeder very close to one of my windows this year and my cats are having great fun "stalking" the birds. The birds look right at them and don't care. It's funny.

this place is so surrounded by trees, there are squirrels everywhere, they use the fense lines on two sides of my place as a roadway. the neighbor cat tries to catch one once in a while, it's funny to watch. Miss Kitty caught a young one last summer, and of course had to bring it to me...

When we lived in the country there was fence/trees all around the property. Squirrels would play their games with the dogs. Eventually we noticed there were no squirrels, the dogs had gotten them all! We had one outdoor dog, Cochese. He was a Lab/Dalmation mix. He was the best hunter and definitely an outdoor dog. He refused to come in the house!

My backyard was covered with pine cone "cobs" where the squirrels took them from all the surrounding yards to strip them for their seeds. My old dog Trudy completely ignored them so it was a squirrel haven. My new boxer Waldo is to much of a wimp to hunt anything so it will probably stay that way.

Miss Kitty caught a young one last summer We used to have a cat named miss kitty. She met an unfortunate demise involving a car. We still have Festus. He used to be a good mouser, rabbiter etc. but is getting old. Festus was always a little special. He used to chirp instead of purr or meow. It was funny. Now he doesn't make any noise at all. He is pretty independent.

I've never met a cat that didn't have at least 2 unique quirks! Isn't that the truth!

've never met a cat that didn't have at least 2 unique quirks! Festus is very loving as long as he is in complete control. He will rub your ankles all day but if you pick him up he gets apprehensive & the claws start coming out. We used to let Miss Kitty in on the porch to sleep during cold weather so she got the idea she could dart in on the mud porch every time we opened the door. I'd hiss at her & hook her with my toe & toss her back out the door. One day I accidentally cracked her head on the doorway. For the rest of her life, all I had to do was hiss at her & her ears went back & she stopped whatever she was doing & took off. We used to have a funny little dog too. Star was acutely aware of the boss employee relationship. Every time we drove in the driveway she would be on full alert, tail straight up, ears perked, barking into the empty field & she would make a pass around the dog pen as if to say "I'm doing my duty". It was all a farce. Once I looked out the window & she was watching another dog eat her food as if she had not a care in the world. I pecked on the window & she immediately sprang up barking ferociously & ran the other dog out of the yard. She was a good dog as long as someone was watching. She also seemed to understand the pecking order of the household. Once upon a time our boy was young & playing outside & he decided to rebel at bath time. Mom went after him & gave him a swat on the behind, the little dog wrapped her legs around my wifes leg as if to stop her. She didn't bark growl or bite, just attempted to restrain. Another time the wife smarted off to me & took off running so I chased her & the dog kept trying to grab my leg to stop me from chasing her. It seemed whomever she perceived as the larger aggressor aught to be stopped by her.

Another time the wife smarted off to me & took off running so I chased her Now why would she mouth off and run? Why is she afraid of you? What did you do when you caught her?

I find the unknown a good deterrent. I'm not afraid to tickle her mercilessly either.

I'm not afraid to tickle her Oh, that is pure torture! Hubby is sensitive under his chin, and I hate when my knobby knee gets tweaked!

There is a woodchuck in there. We couldn't get it out though. Clyde couldn't quite squeeze in there, and he couldn't dig for it.

We just had ALL our pine trees cut down a couple of weeks ago! Yippppeeee! Between DH & myself, we picked up over 20,000 pine cones last year just in the front yard. We are getting too old to be doing that every year...it like to have killed my back. And I did count up to 10,000 and then just guesstimated after that...DH didn't count his at all.
So when we get done picking up the ones that fell when they cut the trees....NO MORE PINE CONES or hard cores where the squirrels had stripped them for the seeds! Those things are hard on lawn mower blades! All the squirrels will now have to play next door...that fella only had his trees thinned!...about 8 acres of planted pines, ours was about 10 acres but they had been thinned about 13 yrs. ago.
