From this morning's trip out to the garden in that almost-freezing 52° weather... The red peppers in front are Leutschauer Paprika that will be smoked, dried, and ground into powder. The yellow sweet banana and jalapeño are going to be pickled. Those tomatoes in the back are Fox Cherry and are a very good producer. I like them because they are the ideal size for canning whole. The peppers are all from one-half of one bed, I still have another full bed with green and Lesya peppers to pick. Going back out to check out the corn later.

Dear Brother went to Ellijay, GA yesterday to pick up a new pup --- a "Chiweiner", a cross between Chihuahua and Dachshund. While there, he racked up on fresh Blue Ridge apples and cider, too. I'm going to trade some of my peppers and more garlic for some of them apples and cider this afternoon and meet his new doggie, "Baxter".

Wheelgarden, one of our “grand pups” is a Chiweenie. His name is Roscoe, and his favorite place to be is on somebody’s lap…or on the bed if someone will help him up there. Roscoe and Daisy are rescued dogs after their previous owner moved from the house and left them behind and on their own. Dog #3 is Murphy…also rescued. Daughter is coming in September, but I’m not sure if the dogs are coming too. Murphy has never traveled.

martywny , Would love your pickled pepper recipe! I'm planning to pickle pepperoncini and poblano. Those are some beautiful peppers you have there!

Got the Marinara done yesterday, took a long time it seems compared to pickles and relish! 14 pints. Mowed the yard, picked tomatoes and beans. The Trombetta squash sure have lots of vine, but I've only gotten 4 squash so far. The thing about them is they are not easy to store in the fridge with their odd shapes and length! I've been cutting them in halves or thirds to fit in a bag. DH and I wrestled the desk/table to the upstairs yesterday after I fixed a few scratches on it with my handy-dandy stain stick. Worked great. The sides of the table don't show anyway. Moving that thing was a feat. Drug it on a blanket and tarp to the door, then "walked" it across the floor on it's side and pretty much slid it up the stairs on it's top. Where there's a will there's a way. For $10 it looks like $100!! And I discovered the $5 chair I got is actually real leather, so the label on the bottom says, not a flaw on it. Like DH says, I can fall into a pile of pig poo and come out smelling like a rose. Initially I was planning to remove the shelf under the desk, but decided to leave it. Excellent storage space for the Serger.

Good flavor and a bit of a kick to them, reuben , my one hand was burning a little after cutting them up.

martywny, Have you had any problems with pepper maggot this year? Not that I've noticed, gardendmpls, although I tossed a couple of bad peppers without really looking to see what caused the problem. All of my peppers are in raised beds, not sure if that would make any difference. I have not used any preventatives on my peppers.

Like DH says, I can fall into a pile of pig poo and come out smelling like a rose. I don't know anyone who can match you in the deals you find!

Lots happening the last few days. I'm officially working from home for a non-profit a few days a month and may be taking on some additional assignments as well. Hubby and I really like kiddo's new teacher and hoping all goes well this year. Today I'm assisting hubby at an outdoor sale trying to reduce inventory a bit more and will be doing the same tomorrow. Temperatures in the 70s so quite an enjoyable day

Found pepper maggots prefer my favorites, Turkish orange and Cookstown orange eggplants. Chickens get those. Hope the maggots are done with soon so I can start eating the pepper and eggplant harvest instead of tossing it.
